Perform: what are your initial thoughts?

• The lag between clicking/pressing a note and hearing the actual note is messing with my head. Badly. (FYI I play on a VPN with stable 40ms ping.) Client-side notes should play immediately regardless of network conditions.
• If using mouse click: simply not quick enough. Also error-prone. This is when I wish my monitor was a touch screen.
• If using keybinds: interferes with normal gameplay keybinds. Can hud layouts also save keybinds so we can get different keybinding configuration on different hud layouts?
• Actual note names on icons would help a tonne more than color gradients which look nice but are absolutely useless.
• No macro control: disappointing, but I can understand the reasons. It acts as a barrier of entry to avoid everyone copy-pasting tunes and playing it everywhere.

After messing around with it for a while, I found that when I try to click different notes in quick succession, I can actually bloody move the hotbars while not in HUD Layout mode. WTF...It's happened three times now, they'll move just a little to go out of alignment and force me to go back to HUD Layout to move them back.

I'm afraid the conclusion is that they didn't test this extensively with real music. They probably didn't even give it to Soken and ask him to try performing some of the FF music with this. This feels like alpha software. :3

It's an entertaining feature. My only problems are I have to turn BGM off to hear it and it doesn't have its own hotbars. Also there are 37 buttons, which is quite an odd number. The way I see it, the best thing to do is slot them temporarily as need be for specific compositions.

not a fan to having to use so many hot bar and no macro useage. I m just sitting there playing "A Place I'll Return to Someday" - FF9 song <_<

My UI uses all 10 hotbars for all my jobs, it's impossible for me to use this feature. I understand you don't need ALL of the notes, but even for just messing around I simply have no space to use even a bunch of them.
This wasn't well thought out and needs a specific UI element just for it.

What gets me about the macro inability is that... in the stream where Yoshi showed it off, I could have sworn he had different singular notes macro'd to buttons for easier playing access when he performed Dragonsong. I remember 1 2 3 icons instead of these color buttons. Would be nice if we could at least macro them that much. :c

I am really surprised there are no macro commands which kinda makes this useless and a waste of development time would of preferred the resources to go to getting the items stack 999 in this patch over a half baked idea which wasn't fleshed out for use ability.

I question the decision to not give us a means of muting Perform (and only Perform)
Had the suspicion major locations would become incredibly grating to visit thanks to people randomly playing (and that's assuming they're not doing it just to be an ass). And my initial impression so far seems to lean on my gut reaction was completely right

There's a post in the User Interface forum introducing how to use combat "classes" hotbars to store the perform actions and using a macro to swap them in/out on your BRD. It works perfectly.

yep you are correct however they could of been placeholder icons used at the time but i have a feeling they cut the macros as they fear people would use this to recreate other songs and have copyright issues.

The lag between pressing the keys is absolutely the worst. If anyone has ever played an instrument uses this, they would recognize that not hearing the note INSTANTLY is a major turn off and screws up any kind of timing. I played around with it for a bit playing 5 notes back and forth as fast as the system would play them and I was literally pressing the next key while the previous note was just playing. It messes with my head way too much to enjoy.
