Micah, you are using the latest cutesy hairstyle. Galaktica, you are sporting the summer Faire Joi which is right up there as well. Seems you both are dabbling with the more kawaii items that were released recently.
I'm all for being against the kids, but the 'no more kawaii' reasoning seems a bit weak. :X

It fits perfectly well with my glamour, which is not at all cutesy. Nor are buns necessarily a cutesy style. It's all about context and the overall look. If I were wearing them with the maids outfit, sure cutesy, but I am not.
Big picture darlin
It's almost as if cute is subjective. For what it's worth, I don't associate a dual-bun hairstyle with a standard look adults would go for. This would be something kids wear, or those going for a cutesy/carefree style.
Perhaps it would be someone's head-cannon that they are an abandoned child who has to grow up on the streets defending themselves. Give them the 'dirty face' make-up. Dress-em in rags. BAM! Bad-ass child fighter.
Kids don't have to be kawaii, just like your dual-buns. As you said, it's all about context.
And for the record, I am still against adding kids as playable characters. I just find "no more kawaii' to not hold much weight.

Oh okay, so we're doing this. I use the summer Faire Joi on two of my outfits, this specific case was for my MNK glamour which was designed around an MMA outfit and because Square Enix, in their infinite wisdom, made it so classes have to share gear, my SAM is stuck with the outfit and I hate it because it thematically does not fit what I envisioned for my SAM.
But even setting that aside, no more kawaii =/= no kawaii at all. In previous threads, I've stated numerous times that I do not mind cute/kawaii stuff. In fact, I like it. Personally, my problem is the game keeps heading more and more in that direction. Add a cute outfit or two, I'll wear it (obviously), but I don't think that's all that should be added. Add Viera or another cute waifu race for all I care, sure whatever, but for the love of god do it after we get something that's not "cute."
I would like them to branch out instead of doubling down.
My point was just to point out the ridiculousness of such a general statement, while personally using items that most would say tip the scale on the cute-level. I'm not going on the attack, so no need to brace for anything.Oh okay, so we're doing this. And I get your point above, however none of that was fleshed out in what I quoted earlier. SE (currently) seems to favor races looking pretty and cute vs. rough and more fierce. Look at the Au Ra treatment. The concept art for the females looked pretty awesome (imo), but a vastly different version was released. It could very well be that more rugged looks just don't fit with their aesthetic, or maybe it just doesn't sell well. This is obviously all speculation as I have no bloody idea what is going on with those people.
