Men have indeed worn corsets more than a 15 year span of time as fashion statements. Regency style (popular during 1800-1850 in both France and GB) for men was dominated by the thin waist silhouette - broad jacket shoulders and some men wearing corsets to accentuate the look (google 'dandy Victorian era' as just googling dandy now gets you the AHS character >>

. When whalebone corsets fell out of style (for being expensive and particularly restricting), the shift to steel corsets made medical corsets more popular. Some of these medical corsets were not even called corsets, an example being Frederick Reast's Invicorator Belt (I cannot find the patent of the Invicorator Belt, but please have a
link to his other work that is mentioned to be for men and women). This trend continued for years, until recently when men became more open to wearing fashion corsets again as way of sexual or fashion expression.
Lastly, corsets were not designed to oppress and defile women like foot binding was. Petty, but nothing gets my goat more than people comparing corsets to FOOT BINDING aka one of the most horrific body mutilations that women were inflicted with. If you had your feet bound, you would end up with permanent disabilities no if, ands, or buts. Corsets were designed to support heavy outer clothing and promote good posture not mutilate you. Corsets
do not cause medical issues or pain unless used to the
extreme. Not to mention - corsets were for both men and women, where as foot biding was an exclusively female practice.
Please, if you think wearing a corset is painful, wear one for some time. It's really not in the slightest, even when you cinch your waist in several inches.
