Like using Tomahawk/Shield Lob/Unmend rather than using Provoke to initiate a pull....had a few tanks REFUSE to progress further when they were asked why they preferred Provoke over the others.I’ve had new player tear into me for just saying just a heads up if you do this you will have better results with this. You can take advice or leave it. All advice is optional and pointing out that one thing works better than another isn’t insulting someone it’s just giving advice.
Few more thoughts. I really wish PvE, PvP, and Crafting Mentor had to each be earned separately, with the full, generic Mentor title being granted only once all three were unlocked. I never set myself to just mentor, PvP or Crafting Mentor. I am in no way, shape or form qualified to mentor anything but PvE.
I agree with needing to max out one tank, one healer and one DPS. You need to understand, on a general basis, what is required of each role. I don't agree with the suggestion of requiring every class to be a certain level. I hate PUG. I leveled it for some cross-class and that was it. I despise pet classes, so ARC got to 15 for WHM and then I buried the pokeball in the attic and left it. I'd like to think I'm a good, helpful mentor. Force me to level either, or both of those classes, and I'll go back to being an unofficial mentor. Honestly, the elitist mentors are more likely to have every class at 70. You'd only be making things worse.
Probably the most frequent thing I end up saying to new tanks is that provoke is designed to take hate from someone if they pull it from you but does nothing if you are already at top of the enmity list. Sometimes they appreciate the explanation. Other times they essentially tell me to piss off. Then sometimes when they tell me to piss off someone else in the party looks at my search info and points out how many jobs I have at lv 70 and they stop spamming provoke without saying anything.
I've stopped saying anything 90% of the time, especially if they are keeping agro throughout the entire dungeon. Only when they lose agro constantly will I speak up about it causing issues. But usually, it's the lack of Overpower/Flash/Unleash that causes the loss of agro.Probably the most frequent thing I end up saying to new tanks is that provoke is designed to take hate from someone if they pull it from you but does nothing if you are already at top of the enmity list. I feel, in that regard, that with the loss of Flash as a cross-skill action, a lot of tanks mistakenly think that Ultimatum is its replacement. If I see them losing hate a couple of times I'll point it out, but after that there's little I can do so I see if I'm in the mood to continue the run regardless and if the healer can keep me up, if not, I'll quit. You can bring a horse to water etc.I've stopped saying anything 90% of the time, especially if they are keeping agro throughout the entire dungeon. I feel like some of them that they are pretty much not doing it for the sake of representing as an actual mentor, i know they are using it for a reason like they are just wearing for display or even showing a sign of superiority complex? Idk but some of them aren't fit to be mentors if they are going to harass people or not have the courtesy and patience to guide newcomers or even people who are getting back to the game.
"Never give up, you will struggle but you shall triumph"
You try memorizing all of the mechanics for all of the old ass content in this game.i also saw mentors dont know wahts to do against primae or dont even knowed mechanic in normal dungeons.
how they want lead newbies when they dont know wahts to do?
Also, yeah, if I roll something like Ramuh EX and the group doesn't show any sort of promise after 1-3 wipes, I'd leave too. The clear rate for this in DF is abysmal and there are countless other more productive ways for me to waste time in this game.
I personally don't think EX primals should ever have been put in the mentor roulette. EX primals are not fights meant for new/inexperienced players.
If people don't try this sort of content, they'll never step out of their sprouthood even after the icon is gone. If the game wanted to lock those things behind a harsher requirement, they would've. But the biggest issue here is this seemingly asinine separation in the mentor roulette between Savage and Extremes that I never got. Especially synced, with high chances of people being under-geared, Extremes can be extremely punishing and nigh impossible to complete within the hour. What am I missing that sets Savages apart form Extremes in this case?
I've seen so many posts back when I first started playing where people would complain about tanks using (back then) Flash/Overpower too much, saying that if the tank was good they would never have to use it. My opinion is if you have the ability why would you not utilize it? It's nice to see that I'm not doing something wrong whenever I use GLA.I've stopped saying anything 90% of the time, especially if they are keeping agro throughout the entire dungeon. The complaint involved pulling with flash, not simply using it.
