Except it is just ARR. HW doesn't have nearly as many filler quests as ARR does.

I don't think going through the MSQ is a problem. I call it playing the game - the fun part of the game.
Eventually you run out of quests and reach the end of the game which seems to consist mostly of running boring dungeons over and over and over again.
Wow, firstly, if they were on a speed run, they should have created a full party before entering, secondly, they should have seen you was new to content and been a bit more thankful for getting bonus tomes.
I am sorry you have had to put up with this sort of behaviour, the FFXIV community overall is a good group, don't let anyone rush you into finishing content just because they are impatient, and if you do get harassed or if they kick you for it then report them, as watching cutscenes for MSQ is not a valid reason for kicking someone.
Here on Masamune (JP Server), people are patient and will usually wait for cutscenes to play out for all newcomers, I do see on a few other servers that this is not the case and this kind of saddens me as everyone seems to rush to complete everything as soon as possible instead of enjoying the game in its entirety.
I always watch cutscenes on first runs, if anyone has a problem with that, then they are free to leave and take a penalty for it.
It doesn't matter if its filler or not. The daunting task of having to complete 500+ MSQs in order to enjoy the end game content is way too much to ask of new players. Here's a game, but you have to do 40+ hrs of quests first.
It was fun in the beginning, but the more you have the more tedious it becomes and the bigger the barrier to entry becomes and it will only get harder to find people to do dungeons with you as well as players are scattered across a larger and larger area. The 500 quests will easily take someone over two months to do. That is two months they have to invest before they can even get a chance at the end game provided they manage to reach that point at the beginning of a new equipment cycle.

Tastes differ. My point was that the MSQ (and associated sidequests) is the game as far as I am concerned. The so-called "end game" is just filler content until we get more story - and not something I really care about.
Dungeons and raids can be fun - the first time you make it through them. Subsequent runs quickly become a boring grind.
Amen.
Seriously...I whole heatedly agree - I would suggest you just tough it out...speed run it...and then
A - look for friendlies who are willing to run it with you (Unsynched) so you can enjoy the dungeon at your own pace...
or B- use the memories book in the inn to review cut-scenes.
Or combination of the above.
Every 3-4 runs of this dungeon (either phase) my heart shatters for newbies who get stuck in this. I honestly feel the community are a bunch of #### for forcing this stupid mentality of speed run.... I have no choice but to run along at top speed because if I don't...well..things go wrong. I dont care waht the excuses are....seriously...go away. Its a great game...with great writing in-spite of certain nuances...and my experience was ruined first time in. I didn't just want to see the cut-scenes..but to experience the boss fights in the full brilliance.
don't want to wait? you have no business going there in the first place. Don't commit if you don't have the time. I gladly wait patiently for any newbie assuming I could hold the flood gates back. But as the inference I just used indicated...its a flood. >.<;;;
The Mob is the Mob. those who hate waiting - if you took offense...great...deal with it. Some of us like to enjoy the scenery...even if its for the hundredth time. (yes I'm Old Skool :P )
Gllad SE decided to do things differently as a result. Sorry there's not much I can offer other than the above. Don't let it stop you from continuing the game. Its worth it.
If you want hit me up in game (cross world party) and ill help out.

I got lucky the first time I ran it. Got to see the CSs and participate in all the fights. Second time through wasn't so great. About three quarters in I noticed the new player was missing, so I went back to the beginning to get him. We managed to make it to the last two battles. Needless to say I made a friend that day.![]()
Not everyone that plays this game has 30 minutes to sit around and wait for people to watch cut scenes. Other's like myself have done this content at least 200+ times over the years. I personally think SE should add a option to join a Queue for people that want to watch the cut scenes, and another queue for speed runs. I would suggest new people create a party finder for this content if it is their first time running it and stating that cut scenes will be watched.

Tbh, as a new player, I barely knew of the existence of PF until after. It only occurred to me that it was a thing when I wanted to run the Coils and knew I'd be better off going in unsynced.
So while I can understand PF being an option, idk if it's an option that the majority recognizes/employs.
I'm desperately trying to figure out how a single smn not knowing the instance could possibly cause a wipe. You were with the crappiest group of "speedrunners" ever.
