It was the first and last time main story was involved. Optional stuff, like the coils, are a different story since those you didn't HAVE to do, and were completely optional. Typically, you would have people in the party who would be open to someone watching CS more than in the MSQ dungeons.
I'm still laughing through 4 pages just thinking about your party wiping here. I actually got sort of lucky my first time here where most of the people were 1st timers (and mostly popotos) after the veteran tank mass pulled and died he quit and we got a super helpful tank a minute later who talked us through the fight. I took a friend with me in the ultima fight so he could tell me ahead of time so I didn't get left behind ( funny enough he got left behind on a lift and I was with the group the whole time :P)
I'm tired of hearing about new players getting upset and/or quitting game after bad experiences in ARR content. This is a really good game but we're losing people all the time before they reach the best stuff. I think it should be quite a high priority to adjust the early game experience, at least piece by piece in patches so it doesn't divert much resources away from new content.
CM & Prae in particular should have been altered long ago... at a mininum just place a warning when they are unlocked and added to duty finder which says many cutscenes will play during this duty and it's recommended to form a party with likeminded players who have time to watch. A better but more resource-intensive solution would be completely reworking and rebalancing those instances, and add new rewards like glamor/minions to them to justify the rework so existing players can get some value out of them.
As for the pre-HW msq quest slog, just change as many filler quests into sidequests as possible to make them optional. One more option is to make an expansion that is largely about revisiting ARR zones and roll all the reworking old stuff into that xpac alongside improving the zones. Add flight and swim, extended sections bolted onto the old maps which are only accessible by flight or new msq, with high-level enemies suitable for the new level cap.
Lotta jerks play, I only run the dungeons I absolutely have to for tomes, MSQ and upgrades to my 330 period. This game took the N out of Fun hehe.
This is a problem that has been brought up a lot but those 2 instances are the only ones like that. I was prewarned about them before hand so I watched the CS on YouTube so I wasn’t confused for the ending CS. I hate when people say just watch them in the inn because if you don’t skip everything after that you watch things out of order. Immersion ruined. Butttt like I said I watched them on YouTube because I was prewarned about the speed runs.
I wasn't prewarned and wandered around Praetorium back in the day for 20 minutes lost from my party while they completed the instance without me, and this was nearly four years ago. It's sadly nothing new.
I will also throw out the jewel that they also trolled me by telling me that there weren't enough magitech armors for everyone, and since I was new, I had to not pilot one. So.... there I was running alongside everyone else.
I'm sorry that you had to experience that so soon and I hope it doesn't ruin your perspective going into the future of the game. Best thing is to form a party finder if you can and specify "STORY MODE" "WATCHING CUT SCENES" Cross world is also fine for this but I am uncertain if partyfinder is unlocked at that level yet. There are always others who want to do the content so it should not take too long to fill the partyfinder.

Hai! I'm Vahl, in ur mmorpgs, sort'n my inventory and putt'n 2 many H's in my name since FFXI..FFXIV Inventory Tetris Champ
Honestly for both dungeons I just sat back and watched the cutscenes when I first did them (started this game Christmas last year). No one complained. I somehow got comms.
The blaming you for wiping thing is ridiculous. I've been in there with 2 new people both behind and we cream the bosses no matter what.
Its not just ARR. The entire MSQ is problematic considering how many hundreds of quests you have to get through now. It's only going to get worse with each patch. I know we're around 550 MSQs already.I'm tired of hearing about new players getting upset and/or quitting game after bad experiences in ARR content. This is a really good game but we're losing people all the time before they reach the best stuff. I think it should be quite a high priority to adjust the early game experience, at least piece by piece in patches so it doesn't divert much resources away from new content.
