I'm struggling to find many ways that they will make this fair. My thoughts are 1) new wards will be created as they fill up, letting everyone get a house if they want, and 2) some sort of lottery system where they can register ahead of time.

It's not going to be fair if people still need to contend with server queues or possibly another 3 a.m. PST launch.

Speculation seems to be leaning towards a lottery system where everyone essentially purchases a raffle ticket and a random winner is drawn who then has x amount of hours to legitimately purchase the house. Basically, remove mass log-ins as an equation. These types of lotteries are apparently quite common in JP. And according to reddit, the JP community is rather content with that solution, hence the speculation.

But that's how I'm reading it. My statement didn't mean getting a house for free. From what I understand, if I have the gil, I can get one.

You're looking at it in a vacuum, you can't ignore the context, when wards were added in 4.1 people were at the mercy of login server issues, whether you got a house or not in 4.1 depended solely on login server issues and house transfer lockdown error.

This lead to Yoshida issuing a public apology and announcing they would add more wards in 4.2, and mentioning they were working on something to prevent the issues that happened in 4.1.

This interview is just talking about that something to prevent those issues, so everyone has the same chance to get a house instead of those who don't get hit by login server issues.

The Allied races are not what I was referring to with my post. Blizz specifically mentioned body types.

The new troll clan also has an upright posture, and the upright orcs have also been a model that has existed in the game for a long time as well. Again, nothing new or from scratch, just giving it to the players after a very small tweak. For XIV to do this they would have to go back into a model that currently exists in the game and start a complete overhaul. This includes the Lupin who while we see wearing attire that we have, its obvious everything was modeled specifically in its way. There's no 'It's a Lupin model wearing this', instead we have 'model A Lupin with this look, model B Lupin with this look'.

And you should probably look into these things more rather than propagating the 'catch-all' claims people have latched onto, that were never actually that to begin with. Anytime anyone said that a feature couldn't be done, or added, at this time or in general and hadn't explained it was the limitations of the previous gen console, people just defaulted to it anyway out of ignorance and refusal to accept that something just couldn't be done then and there, or at all. If they say it can't be done right now then it can't, if its just something that can be, just either will take time or work then they'll tell you to look forward to it or that they'll look into it. Pretty cut and dry.

But those examples would be gear/equipment, not parts. Parts makes it sound like actual parts of character's body (or at least, their face).

I can’t stand anyone who actually suggested a lottery system. That idea is the worst housing idea EVER.

I am no IT expert but wouldnt the app itself also not just put more stress on the servers? Because people would be able to access some things ingame everywhere?

Unlike other people characters, other people retainers don't get loaded.

Because we're crossing our fingers and praying RNG picks us. Not to mention, unless they lock the raffle to one registration per account, anyone with multiple alts will have better odds. Basically, like James said. Both suck.

They don't even need to add new facial hair options. I think the game would benefit a lot from just having more faces to choose from which would also, in turn, provide a wider variety of NPC faces as well.
