One time I got Odin and got paired with a sprout WHM who kept running out of MP because they were spamming cure 3 on the tank (whom had no one else near them), and they were yelling at the bard to constantly give MP. I told them they are abusing cure 3, that it's draining their mp, and that cure 1-2 were the better options, because they're single target, cost less mp, and that cure 3 was an aoe. They snapped at me and said that I should just focus on what I'm doing and that they were going to report me. I just sat there in shock, because I was just trying to help and their lack of resource control was costing us the clear (I was on sch at the time). Plus, the poor bard didn't deserve the crap they got from the white mage.

And you have mental problems if you think every mentor is just in it for the crown. You are so far out from reality, its astonishing. The fact you cannot separate reality from your own little world proves it. That statement is insanely rude, and the worst post in this thread so far. It truly speaks volumes about you as a person. Stop lumping us good mentors with those horrible excuses of mentors. Not all of us are horrible.

I became a mentor a long time ago, because i genuinely wanted to help others. I felt I had a good understanding of every fight (ex and normal modes), and I always made sure to know what I was doing so I could help others. Every duty (mentor roulette or not), I always try to be kind to others and defend those who get picked on. At first, I would always try to politely give rotation tips to players like ice mages, but I was always met with hostility and rudeness. After that, I just stuck to teaching mechanics.

I have never been in it for the crown, the so called "status", the mount.. I have done the roulette enough that I did receive my mount, but to this day I still do the roulettes to help. I'm always that mentor that stays in ex primal groups, even though I had many chances at leaving without penalty. I am always that mentor who stays with a group until they want to give up, or the duty timer runs out. I was always that mentor that would leave the duty without penalty and come back on a different/harder to find role to make the run refill faster, even if I didn't get credit for the clear. I have helped many people get various different clears. I always try to be perky and polite, even though I am horribly shy, but I still have my days where my patience runs thin. I have done my best to be a role model, to better myself, to help those in need. I have smiled through and tolerated so much abuse to myself by inconsiderate twats, and I will be damned if you lump me in with those mistakes of mentors. Get a reality check.

You don't even understand the amount of hate that was thrown my way, even for just being nice (seriously had someone yell at me for it). I know for a fact I am not the only person to experience this, so I can understand if a mentor just snaps. I have come close to snapping many a time, but I always try to stay relaxed. I love being a mentor, and I take great pride in being one. It is incredibly insulting to be automatically lumped into the bad mentor category just because I'm a mentor, when I do my hardest to be the opposite. People like you do not breed motivation to be one of the good ones. If we are just going to be lumped in with the crappy mentors no matter what we do, then why should we bother to try to be better? You don't know every single mentor in the world, you have never ran with every single mentor in the world, so stop acting like you know why we do what we do and what we do. Again, get a reality check please, and stop making generalizations about people you don't even know because you had a couple bad experiences. It's not right, and its not fair to those of us who actually try to do good in the game.

Ramuh Ex Snip.

I actually have a funny story about this.

I was doing mentor roulette on my WHM and ended up in Ramuh Ex, which I'm immediately salty for and let that be known from the start. Yet, I proceed to help. We wipe a few times and I begrudgingly explain why we wiped and how to handle the mechanics, etc. and despite my negativity, everyone was just so damn cheerful that I didn't leave just because I'd feel bad for it. At about the 30 minute mark, my Co-healer decides they've had enough and leaves, which felt like the ideal time to post up a vote abandon since the odds of finding a new healer were slim to none. Everyone begged me to stay and help them clear so against my better judgement, I decide to stay. After another 20 painstaking minutes of solo healing, we actually get the clear and I get 6 commendation from my group.

I still don't know how to feel about the experience honestly.

Believe it or not, they aren't trolling. They honestly believe this. And that hatred is so far cemented that absolutely nothing can threaten that belief. They will delude themselves, inventing phantom mental illnesses as a motive, anything to justify their belief, anything to discount any counter-arguement.

With someone this far gone, there is nothing that can be done, no arguement you can make. They're no longer rational. Best to just let it go.

While you are probably correct, this kind of willful ignorance is so abhorrent to me I actually take comfort in choosing to believe that they are intentionally provoking people for "fun," rather than the alternative.

This sort of willful ignorance is the one thing in the past that has caused me to snap at people in dungeons, something I which I instantly regretted, especially when I had the mentor flag on (and believe me, said people were usually quick to point that out.) Now it's the number one reason that drives me to turn the flag off on days when I just can't deal with it.

It's sad, because most of the time I like helping people and most of the sprouts I encounter welcome the help and our interactions range from polite to downright chummy. I try to not let the bad experiences sour me against all sprouts/learning groups, but I would really appreciate it if other players would extend that courtesy to mentors as well.

Becouse story short there two type of Mentor..
Both Mentor yet one wear the crown to show off while the other hide the crown and teach noobs every time new people join "OMG EXP buff until lv20" but you don't have a crown how you a mentor?

What is your point? Only because someone has no desire to level dps or healers he is not allowed to judge bad mentors?

The Mentor system encompasses all 3 roles. If you are a tank only mentor, how are you going to mentor tanks in any 4 man dungeons? You can't. The mentor roulette isnt just raiding and ex primals, it's every duty available in the game.

My point is that a mentor who pops up in, say, Ifrit EX, and isnt 100% familiar with it because it's been awhile, but are willing to help the sprouts to learn and stick with it, they aren't a bad mentor.

My point is they are holding mentors to an unreasonable standard. They are also saying it's too easy to become a mentor, while also asking SE to lower the bar so they dont have to level a healer or dps. Doesnt quite add up.
