Eureka could be like test bay for the devs on what job skill work and what do not in the full game

The whole content of Eureka is an optional one. I don't know if it will be merits but it is based around powering up your character itself than just only a weapon or gear.
It is going to be very time consuming.
Raids, MSQ, Dungeons are for people who don't like spending hundreds of hours, they want short time commitment in spurts to progress swiftly.
Eureka seems to be an old school type content, where if you enter, you will spends hundreds and hundreds of hours in this content provided you like the type of content. Yoshi made an analogy to a haunted house. A themepark might have a haunted house, that doesn't mean everyone who enters 14 Land will want to go into that Haunted house.
Think of it more like a champion point thing if it goes the point route or more like Zelda if it goes the special unlock route something like must have Boots Of Magma to cross fiery lakes, etc...
Note: The content is self contained, meaning if you don't like it, it is not going to mess with the meta for the rest of the game. Unless it somehow became the most popular content played, which I doubt will happen since the long time commitment things is happening. If there is merits or champion points or perpetual powered up gear, it will only be applicable in the Eureka zones, not the rest of the game as far as I can tell from interviews.
Kind of makes sense. You don't need super power gear in the main game unless you raid. You won't need super powers outside Eureka because the content is self contained.

If it's a self contained system (PvP is a pretty good example, separate everything down to abilities or sort of like XI Abyssea where the imba buffs don't carry over outside of those areas) and Eureka stuff only works in Eureka they are free to do whatever without really screwing people over in the main game so even if they add something like merits that only work in Eureka, or gear sets with stupidly broken stuff it won't affect the main game. The only issue is it would need rewards that can be used outside of said content or people might not bother with it.
I'm not holding my breath though since I thought they might do something cool with stats/skills/etc in PoTD but they didn't.

Ya, they could make whatever system they have planned for Eureka tied into the new Deep Dungeon content. Use Eureka to build up your character to challenge the Deep Dungeon or have the Eureka style content bleed over into Diadem as well that any progression/attributes gained through Eureka can also be used in Diadem.
Will be interesting to see what they do but I would honestly welcome an open ended system that's used for specific content while keeping Extreme/Savage content as is.
The long and short of it is....we don't know exactly what will be in Eureka. We have hints here and there, but nobody but the devs really know what exactly Eureka is going to be just yet.
