Love and Hate relationship with FFXIV

    Greetings!

Im a Star Wars fan that likes Final Fantasy and MMO's in general.

Tho FFXIV is the first Final Fantasy game ive played i do like the universe and style
And im even intrested to play other Final Fantasy games in the future.
The game is good i realy like the grapichs, story and gameplay

Now what i don't like about the game...
Is the whole laps of text you have to read with ever little bid you progress...
(I think this is typical Japanees style of gaming)
I would have prefert a text Box and then acsept quest type of thing.

I know i can skip all the text chatting but then im not sure what im meddeling with.
And this is preciesly the reason i have a bid of a love/hate relationship with this game.

Just my 2 cents of this otherwise beautiful game.

Final Fantasy games are all very story-focused and text-heavy - just a heads up if you plan on playing more of them! Thats pretty much their selling-point (or at least one of them): The story.
And yes, that can be a bit much text from time to time, but if you dont like that, you wont be to happy with FF-games, I reckon.

Also a little heads up for you, if you plan to play other FF-games: Universes, (art)styles and gameplay are subject to heavy changes from game to game. Dont expect other FFs to be like FFXIV just as single-player game - wether it be story, gameplay or graphics.

If you dont like to read a mountain of text, then Final Fantasy (of any numbered variety) is definitely not the game for you. Whether of the 8bit NES era or the current era, all the games are veritable novels of text you have to read through, even if some of the stuff is voice acted.

This doesn't really hold true when you're talking about an MMO. Despite what a lot of people on these forums believe, the story is only one small part of the game. Plenty of other things that lure people to XIV, so while they may not enjoy how XIV tells it's story, the game can most definitely be for them.

If FF didn't have any story or focus on it, it's nothing more than a instanced group simulator given how barren non-instanced content is. I'm not saying people playing the game who don't care about the story are wrong or their reasons for doing so, just that if you removed the story well....there really isn't much there unless you're the type of person who only cares about graphics and gameplay. The story in FFXIV will always be what brings people in, evenmoreso than the gameplay.

The genre matters very much so. The MSQ updates take maybe a few days to get through. If that is the base and core of this game, we're all in trouble. I can appreciate that people enjoy the story, but that is generally only a small part in an MMO.

Lord of the Rings did the text box thing. I see a wall of text and was like "uh...no"

But even then i still absolutely love everything else about this game.

Pro's: Beautiful Graphics, Excellent Gameplay, Great Crafting system, Nice Combat, Good Story, Housing System
    Cons: Lots of Reading

Game can get a bit verbose sometimes but I kind of appreciate the extra effort they put into the quests especially the ones that have a picture in the quest accept box (means it is part of a chain with a subplot or ties things together).

Most of the stuff could probably be said in one paragraph instead of 5 but eh it is part of the charm I guess.

Funnily enough, I used to complain about the opposite. I really hated Guild Wars-style quest boxes -- giving you a wall of text, accept or reject button, and that's the extent of story interaction. It just felt so shallow to me. I like to get immersed into the world, and reading a block in essay format didn't do it for me.

But, I can understand it's more efficient if you're not into it. You can tap numpad 0 to skip through stuff quickly, if that helps.
