Apparently from posts on here, people are against playing with others in this mmo.Actually, I would like the OPTION to bring a friend or be invited to do some MSQ instances with a friend. It's mostly due to the fact that I've been playing for a number of years in a row and a friend of mine hasn't been playing as much and has barley even started Heavensward. It's kinda hard to convince someone to keep playing and unlock dunjins so we could play together, it'd be a lot easier to convince them to do the content if I could actively help them in solo instances like that.
Secondly, I notice you have stated you have a friend in the game - this is frowned upon and not to be encouraged.
Not at all. Just don't allow 2 players in solo missions without changing it to a duo version of the mission. Where both get something to do and not just one do the work and the other watch.
I’ve never had a problem completing content however when my GF and I first started it would have been lovely to do the entire quest line together rather than only the dungeons. Yeah, sure every time I got to one of those dungeon milestones I’d wait for her but the story instances would have been much more fun together. I’d have maybe even enjoyed the shitty post 2.0 story and HW (skipped most of it btw, really disliked the HW story. Personal preference)
Serious question: Have you ever played other Final Fantasy games?I don't believe giving the option of inviting another player to a story instance is setting the bar as you say.
The bar is high enough for those who want extreme levels at end game - there is testing content already there for the percentage of players who want that.
This isn't high end progression we are talking about, just an option in the msq that is all.
The storybattles in 14 are very easy compared to story battles in other FFs.

I did used to be a class mentor and progression raid leader in two statics at the top end content in Warcraft.
After that it was the same as our guild moved to Rift when that launched. Again progression top end raiding in statics.
After all these are mmos - where you play together.

We already had similar mechanics about 3 years ago.
Not exactly the same, but flare stars of T13 and red/blue fire of T12 come to mind.
The latter one really is though... a ball get's tethered to a player, another player needs to pick up a shield buff and intercept the ball.

Yep, thats why SE should reduce exp gain by 99% unless your in a group right? Got to play together as this is a mmo. Having a few challenges that you must tackle alone does not hurt.No I haven't.
