I ignored it because it further demonstrates how it's not worth the effort for something that gets replace shortly after obtaining it anyway. But sure, let's factor that in too: it's only ~1000 extra tomes per set to upgrade everything. The only time the larger cap may help you is if you're attempting to buy everything all at once for your first class. And even then, after that it goes right into my third point above where your current class should easily earn enough tomes on the road to 70 to buy all of the next's class's gear (and now upgrade items), not even considering how most of the equipment is still shared in some way so the more classes you level, the fewer tomes you need for the next one in line. We could factor in weapons too, but that further cedes the point that you're largely wasting your time farming all of those tomes when you're just going to toss them out shortly anyway.
So the 4k cap still doesn't really help anything. If you were going to sit there farm out 4k tomes before starting your first class anyway, what's stopping you from farming 2k twice? There's no real reason you would need to buy everything at once instead of as you went besides some arbitrary illusion of time being saved.
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.

Call me crazy, but I'm one of those players who generally likes being near the cap and spending a bit at a time when needed, so if I get the sudden urge to level a Job, I can just grab everything I need in one go. With the upgrades, the Poetics sets can last you through over half of the trek from 60 to 70. I wasn't getting legitimate upgrades until about level 66 or so. Even then, they were serviceable all the way to max level, so if RNG dealt you few upgrades and repeats, it wasn't a major handicap or anything.

Which I'll give you, because 55-56 is when I first replaced my Ironworks gear in HW. But Augmented Ironworks gear is only i130 so I will call you crazy if you really did mean "60 to 70" and "upgrades starting at 66".
Edit: I was very much mistaken on this particular point, so ignore me.

Poetics now buys you 270 ilevel gear at 60. This is serviceable all the way to 70, especially if you're just upping an alt job.You mean levels 50 to 60 and upgrades starting at 56? WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?

Ooooh okay, that explains a lot. I was wondering if I was missing something. I had no idea they busted down Shire gear to Poetics, I assumed they got the Centurio treatment like the old Law and Esoteric gear.
So fair enough, I'll concede that point. I was wrong. I still firmly stand by my statement that a 4,000 cap has exceedingly minimal benefit though.
