Casters 334+ (with SS set fro BLM and low SS for te others)
    Healers 330+
    BRD/MCH 339/335
Tanks 320 (but didn't bother to replace 310 acc yet, also they have 310 weapons still, easy to gear up now)
    NIN 320

So, idk I have several jobs to raid and to join ex trials...
and it's still 3-4 months to go.
Imo it should be enough to raise the cap to 600 or 700.

I mean how much of the games content can a player access with just verity gear?

You simply don't need anything better. And going after better and better gear that you'll never actually need gets incredibly tiring and frustrating.

I think that's why this game has such a huge issue with player retention. There was that thing not long ago about 10 million registered players milestone. But less than 5% Of them are active subscribers if you assume census data to be remotely accurate.

It's why players don't meld as well. What you meld today you'll toss tomorrow so fek it why bother.

Recently started to think it's also a big part of why people don't bother in general. And leads to that skill gap between players. Because again nothing lasts long enough to be worth any real effort.

Even those super savage weapons. Second 4.2 lands they'll be trash tier junk. Not exactly enticing is it.

And people wonder why people care more about glamour and invest tens of millions in a poncho but won't invest a dime in there actual gear..
Can we please stop with this idea of "You dont need better gear". Eventually patches have a new higher ilvl requirement to even be able to "attempt" it. If you don't consistently upgrade your gear, you will fall behind and be unable to participate. Verity gear locks you out of O2S and beyond, so does the new dungeon gear. Everyone should be working towards gear improvement at some point or another, even if they don't need it (yet). If you want to play alt jobs you have to keep up with those too.

Almost everyone i check melds, now that we have a chance to remove melds... there's even less of a reason not to.

I think we can all agree gear don't last very long in this game but that's a reason to keep upgrading instead of a reason not too for better or worse.

Raider 1: Caster role. Number of jobs in caster role: 3. Assuming V2S is cleared.
Week 1 goal: 450 on RDM; 450 on BLM; 450 on SMN; wins early model tomestone. Buy 4 tokens on RMD, 4 tokens on BLM, 2 tokens on SMN. i330 weapon bought in one week. Normal amount of time: 2. Leftover tomestones: 350 (on SMN).
Week 2 goal: 450 on RDM; 450 on BLM; 800 on SMN. Normally now, you could get a chest or leg piece, or hang onto tomestones and get the weapon.
Week 3 goal: 900 on RDM; 900 on BLM; 1250 on SMN; can buy coat, legs, and two 495 pieces. Normally, you would get the weapon.

Yeah, huge difference in gear progression pacing. People would be expected to get their role/ job geared that fast, given the option. It would also vastly harm roles with fewer shared gear (ninja, dragoon in regard to left side equipment). You'd be right in the long term (toward the end of a patch cycle), but in the very short term (when a patch cycle is still "fresh") that's pretty steep divide.

I mean I agree to a point but , ok I have 13 jobs at level 70, the last two over level 50, all are basicly ilvl 320, I currently have 3 fights that I need to beat in the said relevent content. So tell me if not gear then what else would I be chasing, im not sayin thats ideal but it would literally be nothing because this game throws away old content like its garbage dumbster trash. So without gearing and constantly upgrading once you are max level then you would literally have nothing to do if for instance gear lasted a whole expansion. If you have a better idea of what to chase then please let me know because I frankly dont see how this game would work without the constant gear upgrades.

100% agree with this, it should be role based, not job.

I agree with the lock by role comments but then.. we fall into the Maiming,Striking,Scouting gear debate, since only specific classes can use one set, so if a person likes to play SAM but for raid composition is required to play ninja, we fall back into, you cant gear it up cause you are spending your tomes on that other job.

To be honest the I-level progression is what I think needs to be fixed but, then again thats is how this game is designed for, it is a complex subject to say the least cause the only way for them to kind of fix this would be to created individual gear for every job, and that is a lot of resources

Fending: PLD, DRK, WAR + accessories
Healing: AST, WHM, SCH + accessories
Casting: RDM, SMN, BLM + accessories
    Maiming: DRG + slaying accesories
    Scouting: NIN + aiming accessories
Striking: SAM, MNK + slaying accessories
Aiming: MCH, BRD + aiming accessories

Still does more harm than good when content is considered fresh by setting it to just gear by role because not all share 3 armor types. See post.

There's more than 1 way to gear up. Ilvl 320 HQ weapons actually eclipse 330 weapons, sporting a higher primary stat and the potential for greater secondary stats once you factor in materia pentamelds. For other gear, there's creation gear and augmenting it with rabanastrian coins, savage raid drops and saving up tokens, and regular ilvl 320 deltascape drops to fill in the blanks. And that's just off the top of my head. I have multiple classes and roles at 325+ just from doing weekly raiding with my FC and thinking with this mindset. Things are totally fine

The drawback is that you would need to get tomes on that class, and with DPS classes and queues that could be difficult. I gear out my whm first and then use my tomes on my brd that I have gained on my whm. Not having that option any longer would seriously hinder gearing my brd.
