I cannot get behind "rent" on a house. the purchase is already pretty high in some cases.
but like many have said "1 house/1 acct/ all your characters share ownership per world" is something I would stand behind.

a reasonable rent (more like 10-100k, though this is subjective to your servers economy) deductible from an in game bank.. or your primary retainers held money so you can fill it for long away time I can get behind.
Large/med houses for FC only? Sorry no, I have bigger aspirations for decoration than the small house can accommodate.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
I personally believe that, with the auto-demolish policy active, only honest active players will be punished should there be a rent (especially if it will be costly) system added. Those who can afford multiple houses obvious have access to RMT trades, therefore gil isn't an issue. For casual players, like me, who simply enjoy socializing and hanging out with friends, may have difficulty to regularly gather enough gils for the rent (call me lazy if you will, but this is one of the main reasons I remained subscribed for almost over 4 years without pause). Moreover, there are negative feedback from active players who continued to pay real money to extend their subscriptions in order to prevent their houses becoming demolished, despite the lack of playable content between major patches.
Of course, for house monopolizers, they simply do quick log-ins with their alts, pay the rent with RMT gils, log-off, and it would be business as usual for them.
The response to the devs not having the manpower or budget to perform a massive overhaul that is UNSCHEDULED is that they should man up? You clearly have no clue about game development, nor do you care. I have read enough of this thread to understand that you would happily sacrifice the quality of 4.2 just to get a housing overhaul, and if that is not true then I'm sorry but you just sound entitled.
The housing crisis is a problem, but it is not a reason to be unrealistic with demands. The devs have limitations, and housing is a huge undertaking that has repeatedly missed the mark, 3 more months of development (conception to implementation) will hardly do the system justice with what you are asking for.
Not everyone makes a mil a month? That's ridiculous. If you're not making that much a month you're either not playing or not trying. Besides, if you own a house, a mil a month should be nothing.
Instanced housing is an awful idea.
Rent is an awful idea.
A patch solely focused on housing is an awful idea.
Can you just stop?
Thanks for this. I will take it a step further even. Why is everyone so mad about housing in FFXIV? How is it a crisis? Ok, if there are people monopolizing houses with RMT gil, I get that. I truly get that. But there are aloooooot of people who earn their gil the right way and get their houses. They've earned their houses. Alot of the people complaining about housing and how hard it is to obtain are people that barely play and barely have any money? There are people who put in alot of time playing and have earned alot of gil, and when those people snatch up houses, everyone complains about how they couldnt get one, or how they were too expensive. I say if a house means that much to you, maybe you should put in the time and effort like others do, instead of complaining about how Square should just make a bunch more and just hand them out so everyone can have them.
If you play alot, have lots of gil, and are constantly looking to get a house, you have a leg to stand on. But there's people out there that have 1-5 mil, who play 1 day a week who complain and complain about housing this and that, and I just don't understand. You think you should just get one for nothing and no work? What fun is that? People will hate this RL comparison, but houses are earned and fought after there too. Pretty much what people are asking from Square with housing is for Government assistance. If everyone could have a house, the whole love for this game in the context of housing would go out the window for many players. The idea of a house being special right now is why everyone wants one. If everyone has one it's not unique anymore, and the game would suffer alot, I believe. It's not without it's flaws, but I think people are focused on the wrong things with it. Method of obtainment and requirements could be looked at, but amount and the price is just fine.
