"Same chance" would actually make your "internet problem" argument irrelevant. Just saying. Though if you'd read my post you know my launcher crashed which is not a fault on my end given it happened to numerous people. So no, especially given the 5 hour downtime today it's pretty obvious that it came down to dumb luck.

I'm pretty sure luck based thing is "same chance". You had same chance as everyone to have connection problems. Personally I was in 500 queue, got kicked at 200 and then had error 1016 for 20 min. When I logged in the only thing I managed to get was (much) better plot for my small house (relocated 5th class Mists to 1st class Beds).

OT: I'm still not sure what to do with mine. I ignored it previously because I planned to replace it with medium one. Now that I'm stuck with small house, that is also in the best location I could hope, I guess I'll just stick with it. I'm burning all this now useless gil on cherry trees and maybe I'll get new shirogane-style exterior? It's 40m on MB right now, so I'll wait a bit.
Interior will be my usual cozy room with kotatsu table :3

I got lucky. My launcher crashed twice, then my character wouldn't load because of "server load" for what felt like forever, then I got put in a 300+ que. Nearly gave up because I thought my game was gonna crashed because the loading screen turned blue, then I was suddenly looking at a strangers feet. Went to the ward I planned on getting to, but the plot I wanted got bought, same as my back up. My raid leader said ward 2 was still pretty clear and fumbled there (quite literally). Even with technical difficulties, I still managed to get my dream plot (plot 1).

I'm turning it into my dream home. It's mostly done, but the inside needs the rest of the new hingan furnishings. I'm hoping to get into RP, and the house goes with my character's back story. I look forward to hosting beach parties!

No this isn't true. Your chances weighed heavily on what server you're on, internet connection, proximity to your data centre and what hardware you have. Loads of people had the odds stacked against them before the patch even hit. Never mind stuff players had zero control over like the launcher not working, the patch not downloading and lobby errors.

Anyone who thinks we all had the same chance for a house is woefully uneducated as to how insanely competitive the housing market is and how many factors affect your chance of buying a plot before you can even log on your character.

Honestly. All the good, hardcore players I know got a house. Most in ward 1 (all with varying degrees of hardware/internet/locality AUS, UK, USA you name it). I won't say that some didn't get a stroke of bad luck but it seems consistent enough that skill and preparation bear fruit in getting a plot. Most connection errors and game crashes are probably a result of connecting slightly late with the masses.

If you did the following and still didn't get a plot then you are one of the unlucky ones:
- Stayed up all night to patch the game early.
- Placed your character in a desolate spot (not next to the ferry in kugane/shirogane or kugane aetheryte) < avoids potential crashes.
- Found a way to refresh the launcher without logging in each time and refreshed it nonstop at least 5mn before launch was scheduled
- Used post-its and markers on your screen to tell you where to click en masse before the dialog boxes even displayed (example : Launch game > start > character name > confirmation box > and others for aetheryte or ferry or purchase dialogs)
- Set all your graphics to a minimum and a low resolution.
- Closed all unnecessary software on your computer
- Removed any gaming vpn you may have had
- Logged out on a class that had movement abilities, NIN/BRD/etc
- Made macros for selection of NPCs and confirmation of dialog boxes as well as setting status to busy
- Rehearsed all your moves several times until it was all streamlined.

Reality is, I suspect most people who missed out already started off with a handicap by not going over all of the above. It's not to say that you should have to go through all that trouble. But if you did chances are you got enough of an edge to avoid most of the connection population. And those who didn't were subject to connection RNGesus aka: "luck". And obviously some people who didn't do the above might've gotten lucky enough to get in.

The real issue is.. This is a game.. How rare should housing be that people have to go to such lengths in order to get a consistent chance at a plot. I've said this already but SE needs to crack down on RMT and bring the prices of housing way up to balance offer and demand.

In Tonberry, the houses are sold in 5mins. I was online 2 hours ahead because the server opens 6 pm my time so I was already ready. Log on the moment it available (Had my laptop for the time) and got error plus had to restart my game. Then i got hut by 1.7k que.

So that is fair? I am holding 89million now and got no house. I work my ass off as any "elite" to get my gil and followed all rules (i dont know your definition of elite, but if u can do titan extreme with 252 ping i think i am consider an elite)

Yeah that sounds like a real downer. I've never played on ps4 but it sounds like you don't have a launcher equivalent (which was a good way for pc users to tell exactly when the servers were up without relying on an actual clock).
Anyways, I'm not saying there isn't an offer/demand problem. I was editing my post to reflect that as well. I was merely pointing out that the people like you who came fully prepared had more consistent results. Maybe opening housing a couple of hours after launch would've been a better solution.

And fyi 5mn was about the time it took for large and medium to vanish on my server as well. Still, people getting housing and people not getting housing fell for the most part in two clear demographic of players. With some outliers like yourself.

Yeah, it was a downer but really do hope they improve apartments! Improvements such as these:
- Double Storey (Like a small house)
- Balcony for gardening
- BBQ (for people to gather and meet other apartment owners)
- Indoor/open air top swimming pool
- Pay more gil for upgrade in size
- "Utilities like a condo" where you can have gym, swimming pool, Air Transport (for exploration) and Parking area(Chocobo ranch to do choco stuff)

That way it will cut demand for housing plots and reduce server stress.

In my case, I stayed up all night, pre-patched to get an error which I thankfully fixed thanks to help from reddit and logged in on the clock. I didn't have high hopes cause I had issues with the pre-patch and thought i prolly would get another error. Thankfully, my laptop decided to get its crap together for once and I went to character screen with queue number of 182. A few seconds later it logged me in to show a blue screen where the loading page when getting into a zone usually is. I crossed my fingers and prayed that it would clear up, a few seconds later everything went back to normal and I was so happy. Went to the plot I wanted and snagged the mansion. Still saving money for the Shirogane Castle Exterior and more furnishings :P

Can't you put your game on an SSD for PS4 and doesn't it make a massive difference? I don't know, I don't play FFXIV on my PS4...
