half the problem is SE are trying to use them as gil sinks. If you could just reliquish a plot and get your gil back - ALL of it, people would be far less likely to sit on housing they no longer require, or to move to a different area, etc. At the moment, after you've purchased one, there is little reason to ever bother giving it up.

As far as I know it's 80% of the price you paid, not the current price. Although I haven't found this out myself, I've never seen a single thread about someone complaining they didn't get back 80% of what they paid and feel fairly sure that there would be quite a few complaint threads if it was giving back current pricing instead of pricing paid at the time.

The translation is coming from someone who knows nothing about the game, and what Yoshida meant by "high amount" might as well have been any price at all, considering any amount forces the buyer to pay twice.

The GM's reply is pretty darn clear, anyhow. I'm not sure why people keep defending it. I mean, if you can get punished for it, isn't it better to just...not do it? Is that little bit of extra Gil THAT important to you that you'd want to possibly lose access to your account over it? With the amount of people boasting that making money in this game is easy, I don't see how it's worth the risk.

Unless they really just enjoy being disruptive just for the hell of it.

PSA: Report people that you see trying this, then perhaps they will think twice about even trying to buy plots for profit.

As for a solution...
If you could relinquish your home for 80% immediately, perhaps it would help stop people from trying to sell for 3x the plots price (or more). At least it would encourage a much more respectable price. (one that people wont need to report you for)

A market board for real estate bidding, where you can take legitimate, taxed, official offers would be nice as well.

Housing in XIV has many flaws, but I hope the devs will develop new features/add more wards to congested servers.

That's cool, I would definitely try my plot on the marketboard and see how much I could get for it. Opportunities for people looking to buy a house would be coming up all the time, and people wishing to sell could do so without shady dealings. People who will be gone from the game for a while could sell beforehand instead of losing home to the auto demolition timer.

The problem is that last bit.

"When you do see a player that is obviously utilizing their housing to sell it off for a really high amount, and you do see in party finder, please let us know. Report it to us and then GM's will go in and investigate. And if we do find evidence that it is true that a certain player is going out there selling off their land for an unusually large amount of money, we will try to go in there and make them refund that gil and return the land."

It doesn't fix the problem. All it means is that people will use back channels to do these deals instead of PF, and it doesn't create more plots to meet the glaring need for more.

I would hope the GMs put anyone abandoning plots in shirigane within the next few days/weeks with a microscope. You wouldn't kill yourself to get in, then give it up a few days later unless that had been your plan all along.
