OH you got me there, let me count the ways haha, but really that line is always used, " as a defense" so people think the thread is alright to continue forward, " continuing to beat the dead horse" Weather if I stop or not, do you really think this thread will stay off the front page? lol Remember the compromise thread? yeah that last days and days on end, till it finally got locked. So, from this point IM going to stop talking about it, Ill come back exactly 24 hrs from now to see where it stands, If Its on the front page near the top I will reply to it to say " I told you so" if its not on the front page Ill admit I was wrong and we can continue ravaging the forums like Hyneas Finding something to Complain about. (which I hope this one happens, I want to be wrong so threads like these wont be around =).
/end sarcasm :P
I have to agree with the op about SE charging us to play a game that isn't up to a retail release level. I support XIV and want to see where it goes but I could spend my 15 dollars on a MMO that at least has enough content to keep me busy for a few months. I know people hate when others compare FF MMOs to other MMOs but look at rift. That came out a few days after XIV and had way more content then XIV did. Now it's a year later and it's left XIV in the dust.
I honestly don't know if XIV will make it to 2.0. I work in a grocery store and one thing we do is prevent shrink. which is loss of money and or product. At some point they are going to have to make the deciscion about if it's really going to pan out or not. I hope it does but can understand if it doesn't.
my house is in rebuilding stage. this house is very small and in unpopular area.
the roof, floors, plumbing, and gas are all broke.
my landlord fired the original crew. for not completing the job on time
the new crew comes in and makes all kinds of promises, and shows me pics.
now for next year i have to wait for them to finish the job.
should I move to a more popular, bigger house rent it for same price?
or stay in the part of my house that is not being rebuilt. but still pay same rent as others.
i didn't twist your words. and no you don't have to respond, you don't even have to be here.. you chose to if you don't like my opinion then don't read it. better yet if you don't want a response don't quote me, running your mouth picking at my post. its ok for you to do it but not me? hypocrite.

They are charging because SE wants to start getting money back, Wada came in at the end of the live letter and announced they are looking into a discount until 2.0, Yoshi-P and Wada both see potential in the game but they cant go forever without making any money out of it which is why they are charging after 1.20, the game has been in development now for 6 years not making anything, SE said they are rebuilding the game from the ground up, you seem to know nothing about game development because you think they can just give you everything for free now.
SE has already done what no one else has which is making the game completly free for over 1 year because they messed up, you dont care what the devs have done for us, which is working a damn sight harder than you ever have to start to bring us a game that is acceptable.
I wasnt saying buying all the games does not make a loyal fan, what I was saying is jumping ship when they make 1 mistake is not a loyal fan, the post I was replying to was saying that paticular person was thinking of never buying a game made by SE again, because of one slip up which doesnt make him a loyal fan, if you want to quit now and come back for 2.0 by all means go ahead no one is making you stay (Eorzea will be better off without you).
SE are doing everything they can to get the game up to standard, and right now that means start subscriptions even with a discount, or pull the plug, the latter would just be giving up because there is too much work, and the Japanese hate failing and giving up, they will only pull the plug if there is no other choice. They are basicly rewriting a game that took 5 years to make, so 2 years for the rebuilding phase is not bad when you look at the big picture, your just too stupid to realise that.
I don't agree with this policy as honestly, precedent has shown that it has zero impact on the field what so ever.
Dragon Age I was an incredible game, and sold well. It had all the fundamentals and support, then it did terribly by comparison with Dragon Age II.
Did this mean Mass Effect was terrible? Same company, same approach, but Mass Effect II was widely received as better than the first, even though it was trimmed down.
Then we have to go into what Final Fantasy is as a franchise: A seriese of games with similar themes and Icons. That's it. The worlds in their history have gone from true fantasy to cyberpunk distopia and back again with iterations in-between - at least twice. Each world is unique and different in spite of similar themes.
It's almost impossible to keep the same base through it all and have them like all the games.
What causes companies to change, honestly? Media uproar. And we've done that. It's caused some of the most significant changes to Square Enix as a company to date. It may or may not increase the quality of the games made a they are kind of in an identity crisis about how to handle modern RPGs, but at least in the MMO field they've been a lot more open.
You can disagree with what they decide to do, but the open discourse shouldn't be discouraged. And your fandom of a series or company shouldn't be decided on one development team's individual decisions on one game. Rather the games themselves should be taken on their own merits.
FFXIV is the first major game I've seen them drop the ball on some of the major fundamentals, rather than simply make design choices I disagreed on. Only thing in recent memory that came close was the graphical problems with the Unreal Engine in The Last Remnant, which was a really good game otherwise.
If anything, the developers behind the game should be more in the forefront than they used to be. It shouldn't be 'Bethesda' or "EA/Bioware", it should be the specific teams and designers getting the attention they deserve for the game.
As far as SE ditching this project to prevent loss. The loss is already done, and the amount of loss already suffered is mamoth losses, a little more to make a turnaround (IE, a game that actually makes ANY money past it's maintenance cost.) will be worth keeping up for a good long while if only to make up for the money they've already lost on this project.
As far as people coming and going. The soap-box auction of opinions is over. The changes done by that sort of approach have been done. Now's the time to speak back on the level with the developers and create a clear message of. "This is what I would like. This is what I don't." And to really discuss and present it professionally.
It's not as if this game hasn't been in development for a year and suddenly they want us to pay for the same horrible thing it was before. A lot of progress has been made, and a clear course for what's going on is plotted for the future. They told us this was going to happen when suspended the payment to begin with.
Now for the most part, the 'companies' you argue shouldn't be treated like people, are the publishers, the higher ups. Those, you can treat however you like. But the development team are people. They have faces now we recognize and their own visions and dreams for the game just as we do. It's the companies that stare at sales and money figures and breath down their necks. The development team are busy trying to piece together and update a game that best matches our (the players and the developers/producers) shared dream.
I find it strange that the inner workings of gaming companies in this day and age still seem like an unknown to most. There's been plenty of media talking about it for the last few years.
but you're so easy it's hard to resistI didn't say it's not ok for you to respond to my post, in fact I welcome it! I don't even have to exert much effort to rip it apart, you're doing most of the work yourself ^^
let's see....
find the post where I hint at you to just quit. Oh wait, you can't, because I didn't, as a matter of fact, I was quite civil to you.
I'd like to respond to the rest of that, but unfortunately all i can see is one giant unintelligible run on sentence that doesn't seem to quite know what its trying to say.
For whatever reason you seem to be taking everything I said in a completely unrelated direction, proceed to take it personally as if I had kicked your dog, and then whine like a 5 year old devoid of reason. I'd almost call you a troll, except I think you're actually being serious, which is just sad.
