In all seriousness I haven't played long enough to be eligible for most tiers but am pretty certain that even if I did I'd be ok with it.

It's not even you that I'm annoyed at, I just see a lot of people making sweeping general claims like that that paint a set of people as hypocritical when really they don't actually hold the hypocritical viewpoints. Like people who say "People are always asking for harder content but whining when they get it"; there's no proof that the people whining are the people who asked for harder content.

Or "Summoners wanted bigger summons and now they want smaller Bahamut"; again, no proof that group A, the people who wanted bigger summons, and group B, the people who want smaller Bahamut, are one and the same. At a glance it sounds correct, because both groups exist and it's always a possibility that there are people who do belong to both groups. I see it as a strawman however because it paints both groups as the same, when they're not.

I'm ok with it. It gives newer players something to get that was previously out of reach. It's not a slap in the face at all. Those of us who have played more than a couple years have gotten a lot of things over the years, I see no reason why newer players shouldn't get them too.

I feel SE should have given some sort of reverse compensation, such as gold chocobo feathers, mogstation credit, fantasia, or other non-unique items back into the veteran reward system for the long-tier rewards while switching out the prior rewards.
But long time vets already get the reward of getting all the stuff that was moved to the achievement shop without having to work for it, unlike newer players.

I'm honestly torn about this. While on one hand, Yay! New players get the cute/cool glamour faster!! Soon I shall be able to be surrounded by men all dressed up as Zidane! My dream of a cat/monkey tailed reverse harem shall be complete! Mwahahahaha! On the other hand "Oh... I kept my sub up while I was taking my multiple X number of months hiatus so I could get that set" creeps in. I mean, yeah it's really nice for new players, but what about showing some love for people who kept their sub up, even when they weren't able to / didn't feel like playing, because they wanted a particular set of gear? Then again, I do see the point that it's outrageous that you should have to stay subbed for 4 years to get everything... I'm so very torn on this. I think I'm going to wait full judgement on if I am okay with this till after it is implemented and we see the actual changes that happen with the achievement points.

I feel the same. On one hand I feel a little bummed out that next week ill get the squall costume instead of on my next sub extension I had been looking forward to. So I miss out on its exclusivity. On the other hand, I dont want to be salty about something so trivial.

Did the system work as an incentive though? For a few people it seems it did, but for others (including yours truly) the higher tier rewards were simply uninteresting and thus offered no incentive at all for a continued subscription.
I suspect SE saw that of the people who played since the beginning of ARR, very few had kept up their subscriptions continously for long enough to be eligible for the highest tiers. I.e. that it wasn't working as incentive to keep people subscribed.

More than incentive, vet rewards are thank you gifts to who subs for more months.

The real incentive is having a good game to play that continue to be good over the time. As it is now.
