It's not just AF whose image Yoshi wants to keep associated with a class, but generic gear styles as well (he's mentioned previously for instance he does not want to see a mage wearing heavy plate armour because in his mind, that is not a mage). Hence I do not see SE changing this I'm afraid.

Yes I know. For example he said about that here

But there already exist both the plate armors that caster can wear and robes that tank can. In addition, the gears that has nothing to do with the any class (swimming wear, Gown of Eternal Innocence, maid dress, Yokai weapons....) are available as glamours.

How come swimming wear tank is permitted but robes tank is not?

A reindeer costume paired with a giant chocobo head isn't exactly very mage-like either, but that doesn't stop it from being allowed. Actually, I'd rather they restrict such joke gear from being used as glamour than restrict heavy armour from mages. (And they've even gone back on the heavy armored mages rule occasionally, since at least a couple events have rewarded cosmetic plate armour that's for all classes.)

I do think they need to keep the ability to class restrict certain gear. AF gear that's especially designed to exemplify one particular class or job should remain restricted. That much of the rule I can agree with. But extending it to making everything whose stats are inappropriate to your job be un-glamour-able is taking it too far. (It's especially obvious when a piece of gear you're restricted from is just a palette swap or minor alteration of another piece of gear which you would be able to wear, and that comes up a lot.)
