One year limit is the only timeframe I could agree with this. And only if the character has never been logged on with. Otherwise, do not touch. Period.

Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
How about no.
Maybe if the account hasn't had a payment since ARR.
Be more original imo, you have a first and last name with some punctuation to work with.
Well, I meant both side of the debate are logical, I think we just need to agree on a nice medium?
^ this sound about right, or go even further to raise it to two years. System should then give a free name change to those affected upon logging in.

Just deal with it and think of an original name.

The thing i don't like about most mmo is that character name has to be unique. Can mmo game developers starts using other method to identify each characters in a server? For example autogenerated ids whenever you create a character.
PSO2 has this feature and I think it saves a lot of people's time trying to find a good name for their characters.

Its not hard to come up with a unique first + last name combo. If you aren't trying to use an anime/tv/book/videogame character or meme name you aren't likely to get hit by the name taken error.
I agree that a system to remove unused names is something that this game needs. However, 45 days is way too short. If anything, the inactivity should be measured in years, not days. Only accounts (not characters) that can reasonably be considered abandoned should have names reset. Obviously the character itself shouldn't be touched, just the name. So when a character's name is reclaimed, if that character ever logs in, they'll just be required to choose a new name first.
That way there is only minor inconvenience to the player whose name was reclaimed, and names can be given back to the community for active players.

Or they could add a middle name to the creation opening up options until the end of time.

Which anime character's name was it you wanted, OP?
This has been debated before and given that each server has its own pool of names and there are both first and last names needed, it's very unlikely that finding a unique name is going to be difficult any time soon. Wanting to steal a pop culture name someone else thought of first may be appealing but it's actually directly against the game's TOS to use that kind of name in the first place, so S-E have no reason to want to help people trying to make the 500th Kirito on their server. I'd rather they put the team setting up server rules on to better RMT countermeasures or something useful.

I'd have to agree the easiest solution is to just come up with something original.
I honestly kind of wish they'd disallow having an apostrophe at the end of a fore/surname, as it's the primary way people reuse overused names. I've seen people with two apostrophes because they were seriously that hung up on ripping off an existing FF character's name.
