And we clear. So I couldn’t be mad at that. But…seriously, why is the Royal Menagerie such a difficult fight for players? Even now? Even with jump potions, you’ve had to see some variation of everything that the boss tosses at you. I can probably forgive ahk morn and diamond dust if you’ve been skipping trials roulette…but still…Royal Menagerie is not hard. Why are players still struggling with this fight?

Because difficulty is relative. Take that stack mechanic for example. There are people who reach RM not knowing what it is, simply because they don't encounter it enough in the game to learn what it does and even if they did, no one might tell them what it does.

If RM is supposed to be the culmination of every possible boss mechanic encountered in the game and players who've reached that point haven't learned what those mechs exactly do and how to deal with them, well guess what? Suddenly, the trial could be cleared in relative ease suddenly becomes a race to see which lasts longer: your patience or theirs. Combine that with personal learning ability and player skill and you find yourself in a clusterpatch of madness that makes you suck in your breath and pray to the twelve every time you queue up for trial roulette.

DF this week has been a little rough. So many in-progress parties too.
Had one run with an arcanist that wouldn't switch off of his tank pet.
Had one where a dragoon spent most of the run auto-attacking and... throwing her spear? (She also kept killing the adds in the second boss of Snowcloak despite being asked not to).
Yesterday I had a samurai who would just randomly stop dpsing, sheathe his weapon, and stand there doing nothing on and off (notably, he did this during the final boss of Amdapor Keep HM as a spinning sword spawned underneath him and died).
Had a red mage in Kugane Castle stand next to the tank during the first boss. He died to a cleave.
Had a tank that was lagging so bad we'd draw aggro even though he'd aggroed stuff... and then suddenly he'd appear way ahead of us (not his fault in this case; he left because the lag was too bad).

Those are some of the things I remember from this week, but this has been the most interesting string of DF runs I've had in awhile.

Just want to say sorry to the group I left in Doma Castle after 2nd boss on my NIN. I just reached lv70 on it and I didn't want to get the leveling roulette bonus on it anymore. I was DPS, so I hope I was replaced relatively quickly and cleared. I do not do that often for the record either and I did say why in party chat before actually leaving. I took the penalty, so no harm done and I'm sure I'm not the only one that has done that.

Oh, I had something like this happen to me once way back. I don't remember what dungeon it was -- one of the later ARR ones I think -- but it was for my leveling roulette and we were chugging along just fine, no issues. Ding! Tank levels after a trash pack. I offer them a hearty "Congrats!" and they bow to me in return... and then promptly drop the party. Pretty sure they didn't even cap, they just dinged and ditched. Hoo boy, I was livid. One of the few experiences I've had in this game that still makes me a little upset just thinking about it.

I get that it's a little different since you were a DPS (and had actually capped), and I'm not trying to call you out or anything, but if it were me in that situation I'd certainly eat the wasted exp over making the party replace me. That or just queue up for some dungeons regularly if I knew I was close to capping, haha.

Recently, I've been levelling BRD. On one hand, familiarising myself with the BRD skills and scrambling to maintain all my buffs and utilise my skill procs to maximum effect, at all levels, is difficult for me and I have sympathy for BRDs who can't necessarily pull it off.

On the other hand, if you're sitting on full MP 24/7, I still despise you with all the fury of a thousand thousand stars.

I'm amazed how people still get away with certain things. For example the tank I had just right now in Castrum Abania, who was only wearing il270 gear and an il260 weapon. Same for the bard a few days ago who was leveling his first class to level 70 and was still running around with his il260 weapon in Doma Castle, while they should already have gotten a better weapon with the main quest. -__-

Was running Bardam's Mettle as tank. One at a time, relax. Two at a time, pop cooldowns.

Why wouldn't you pop cool downs though? Even if it is one group?

Also if you're going to do these "relax" runs why not make a PF group so people know what they're getting into? I prefer to do small pulls when I tank so I put up a PF saying so. In exchange for putting up with my slow runs DPS/Heals gets an insta-q. Win-win and no one can complain. Seems more rational to do it that way....just my two gil anyways

I was really close to 62, so I jumped into Sirensea with my AST. I leveled before we got off the boat. Got a new, wow that's a lot of text. I'll hit it and see what happens. That's a small target, move it on the tank. Nothing happens. I throw regens up and start gravitying when all of a sudden the tank explodes into a galaxy or something. I had no idea what happened. So a little bit later at the second boss, I use it again. The boss pushes us and it goes off, so it must be a mine. Third boss, I lay it down so the tank will hit it during retreat, it didn't go off. The boss used her AoE and then it went off, so I'm now thinking its an Excog mine or something. Anyway, after the dungeon I read what it actually does.

Also I like to when I have an AoE draw to run into the middle of the party and use it so I hit everyone. Only sometimes I don't have an AoE and card myself. And my prejudice is showing and I like to give powered cards to NIN.

I asked the bf, who was leveling BRD at the time, to log me in and check my retainers for me. As he's sitting there waiting for his level roulette to pop he gets an idea. He adds me to his party, rides my healer queue, and once he's loaded in he makes my character leave. To the people who got ditched in Doma Castle by a WHM I'm so sorry.
