I fantasia'd once, after much trepidation, just to change my skin/eye color and height. It's probably not as dramatic a change as what you're considering, but I really did waffle about it for a long time until I finally got up the courage (after playing an alt with the new appearance I was considering for a while) to just go ahead and do it. I definitely prefer my look now, but I also miss my old design sometimes. I think it's natural to feel that way, honestly.

In my case it was hard to see it as "killing off" my character -- especially since the change wasn't dramatic. He's still the same guy; he's just slightly taller and got darker skin and a spooky white eye now. Still, I don't see why changing your appearance should mean you're a whole new person; look at it as another step on their journey instead.

That being said, I don't think you're being weird or silly about this, haha. It's easy to get attached to our characters!

I've used 2 fantasias myself. Both times I made my character a bit taller with a few other small changes to make it look like she is growing up.

Same character, just older to show how she changes as time passes in the story. Though I can't do it that way again since she's max height.

I'd sooner create an alt than severely alter the appearance of my character. I'm far too attached to her and would only fantasia to make subtle changes no one would even notice except me.

My advice is if anything is telling you not to do it, then don't do it. You'll only end up changing back.

I find that using fantasia can be a good way to give yourself a little motivation boost. Because it can give you new glamour ideas for your new gender or race and it even influences the jobs I like to play.

If youre worried that youre going to miss your old self. Try using a retainer fantasia to model one into your old self. Place him/her in your garden and that way you can imagine you've swapped jobs for a while.

A change, even if short-term, can be fun. I'd say if you have that itch, go ahead and give it a shot! May want to pick up a spare fantasia now while they're on sale for when you want to go back.

If you're feeling uncertain, the chances are, are that you will probably be unhappy with your decision to Fantasia. So I would advise against it unless you are 100% certain. I know, with regards to myself, I could never change the appearance of my character because she is who she is. Fantasia-ing her into another race or giving her a different appearance isn't really an option for me.

However, on the flip side, I've known people who wanted to Fantasia, were hesitant about it, but ended up loving the changes and plan to stay their new race for a bit. And they have an extra Fantasia on hold in the event they ever want to go back. Ultimately, it is up to you. But if you feel extremely hesitant and like you would regret the decision, more than likely, you will regret it. So I would keep your character as they are. And, if you really want to play a new race, well, standard subs allow for up to 8 alts on the same server! :3

I have admittedly changed between Au Ra and Miqo'te 3 times each, finalizing on Au Ra for the foreseeable future. While I am attached to my original miqo'te appearance and did enjoy being the only male Miqo'te doing anything of importance, getting to the steppes was the last straw before I knew I wasn't satisfied as a miqo'te anymore. It's mostly the size difference, the mannerisms of emotes, and overall appearance but actually seeing the Xaela in the steppes was the last pull for me to make the actual switch. Been almost a month and I honestly don't regret it.

Moral; if your curious enough to be indecisive just do it.

I know a user on Excalibur where you see them be one thing one day, something else the next, and then they're something else the next time you see them. There's a small running joke that their fantasia purchases moved the NA data center. :P

You should switch to a Miqo'te because you are already a human irl. I think its more fun to play something you aren't.

I do agree with this and it's something I've thought about a lot. Bu..Idk. I just like my character a lot at this point.

But, thanks for all the varied replies, guys.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that feels like I'd be "killing" my character at this point by changing him. I guess making an alt is the best way to go.
I never thought about it as an attachment until I read some of your responses and realized that...that's exactly what it is.
