What if the offending player want's to RP? And so his name is just as much a part of the character as anything "colorful" SE puts into the game.

So it's ok for SE to add "Colorful" language but not players. Makes perfect sense.

actually yes,it is their game, and their copy right, it is their place to set rules, and decide what they want their NPCs to say, and also if your name is against the rules they have set for the player. There are rules every where, some do go overboard, but rules for FFXIV are pretty light and standard, if you can not follow them, don't be surprised to be reported later.

No, the linkshell did not belong to the couple. The LS owner was a super nice guy, great at organizing parties/alliances, LS events, boosting morale, all the good stuff. Unfortunately, his own kind-heartedness kept him from confronting them about it. As I said, it caused the vast majority of the active players to leave and form a new LS, and he sort of just faded away.

It's not always easy to have to do, but it would have been better to offend the two of them by putting a stop to it, than risk the entire group falling apart.

Quite simple, really. You come into my house, you play by my rules. No different than if I come into your house, I play by your rules.

I couldn't agree more. It's why I put a code of conduct up on our linkshell website. And it's honestly because of that experience, and a WoW guild I was in that went through the exact same thing.

Okay, you were talking about how words hurt earlier, but you don't realize people are born with weird names all the time. Sure, there is a difference here because first of all we can choose our character's names and secondly it's SE's product; at the end of the day, however, I find it quite ironic you compare this with the real world where "Dick" is the real name of some people, nickname or legal name alike.

Now you're going to get the people saying "what's reasonable" In truth there's no way to know, but any sane, thinking person should be able to figure out what they mean by that.

I'm sure a lot of people will still try to argue "what's reasonable". But with a rating of T (for Teen) by the ESRB, it can't be as much of a grey area as some would like to think as the ToS has clearly been written with the intent for player language not to exceed the content rating.

Well here is the thing about this statement: everything up to the F-word is allowed in PG-13. Language that was inappropriate 10 years ago has been de-venomized. Calling someone "queer" in 1999 was a slur - today, thanks to a TV show, the word is de-venomized. The same with "dick" and "doosh." Personally, I wouldn't use these terms around a formal setting, but, socially, they are generally accepted by PG-13/T standards.

Keep in mind I am not saying that it is right - simply that it is acceptable under those guidelines.
