I do wonder if all of this is will eventually lead up to that one breaking point where the WoL unwittingly unleashes a Primal of his own creation and Frey and Myste were actually the components of the whole being that were slowly coming together within the WoL psyche.

I absolutely adore the exploration of the WoL's psyche, but I want to get back in to the "class fantasy" of what the dark knight is supposed to be: Medieval fantasy Batman!

I get the impression Samurai is more like Batman, while Dark Knight is more Punisher. The difference between justice and vengeance, sort of.

An obvious route I don't think DRK has handled yet is quis custodiet ipsos custodes: who watches the watchmen. What happens if a DRK goes bad? If DRKs are meant to punish those who think themselves untouchable, how long before a DRK turns into that which they hunt, believing themselves to be above recrimination and responsibility?

I'm trying to understand the relationship between the WoL, Fraye, and Myste. I know Fraye and Myste are aspects of the WoL's personality created by the soul crystal, but the interaction between the 2 in the final fight indicate they are both independent to some degree. Are we summoning are own primals?

Well, this is why it's good that there's more than one Dark Knight. If a DRK DOES "fall" in this way, he becomes a target for other DRKs.

Sort of? I think that Fray and Myste are aetherial constructs, but but obviously not much like a real primal since no crystals are consumed and they don't drain aether from the land. As for what, exactly, they are, something about being a DRK allows for the physical manifestation of aspects of the psyche. Though, really, this might be something unique to us as the Warrior of Light; Sidurgu never seems to have to deal with this kind of thing, and definitely didn't recognize Myste for what he was - unless he was being uncharacteristically coy about it. So it doesn't seem to be a normal thing for DRKs to go through.

After seeing Myste's abilities to manifest people's memories combined the fact that he seems to be based on Haurchefant and Ysayle, and Fray is based on the real Fray at least physically, I figured that Fray and Myste are actually the result of the WoL's extremely powerful but mostly uncontrolled Echo interacting with the DRK soul crystal and the memories contained within it to create them.

Iirc, though I can't remember where I read it, the last name "Myste" is given to orphans in Ishgard whom's origins and actual last names are unknown. It's kinda like using John Doe.

I don't have much to contribute but this does sound like a pretty good explanation. I'm actually glad I watched all the DRK cutscenes, really good, surprisingly good imo. Always fun catching up on the lore forums.

Actually, we have a source on that. It's brought up in Leofard's profile in the lorebook.

So like Valenth said, Myste is the public domain name for those Ishgardians who don't remember theirs or don't want to use it for some reason.
