Fray was dead and the soulstone belonged to him its apart of the reason he is as he looks, its important to note that myste is Frays surname and my belief is it is hinting at myste being Fray in his youth, both represent the wol psyche, but i think both take there appearance of the former bearer of the soulstone.

How much (or rather, how little)we knew of Fray doesn't factor into why he looks as he does, that is the result of the soulstone's reaction to their psychological state. We learn fairly little of Fray in the start of the quests, and only get the full picture from Sidurgu.

but its not about knowing who fray was its about it being his soulstone originally, the fray we came to know was just the wol, what im saying is fray being the person who had the stone before is the reason for looking like him, and as such its also likely myste's appearance is that of a younger frey which is why i am also saying i doubt myste looks like a combination of Ysayle and Haurchefant which makes little sense.

Fray is not an elezen. He is a Hyur.

This I agree with since Myste bears heavy resemblance to those two.

if so then ill concede the arguement but i still hold to that i dont think myste form is a mix of Ysayle and Haurchefant.

But according to Sid it seems that "Fray" sounds like Fray. I think a remnant of him was left in the soulstone that merged with the "dark" part of the mind.

The way I see it, Fray is the embodiment of our Darkside and Myste our "Grit."

When you look up Fray on the wiki they state his full name is Fray Myste (and this wikia hasn't been updated for Stormblood), which means somewhere along the line SE gave us his last name and I just plain don't remember, lol. Granted, the Fray we get to know aka. Esteem only has the same armor as Fray and we can never see his face because the WoL never saw it. For the same reason why Fray/Esteem cannot have any appearance besides either yourself or Fray's armor is the same reason why Myste can't look like anything that the Warrior of Light has never seen. Esteem was born from the Warrior of Light's desire for a mentor and likewise, Myste is born from our need to find atonement. This is why Myste has Ysayle's hairstyle and Haurchefant's hair color and gender. Your character from start to finish of the questline is doubting whether they who had so much power could have saved the two of them.

The last name was given in the lore book. AFAIK, it's never mentioned in game.
