Question on DF expectations

And I always appreciate a heads up if someone is new to a duty or needs a brush up. Glad to help, or at least wait while someone else explains. I also have no problem with more than one attempt if people are genuinely trying.

Tanks who can tank, including proper usage of defensive cooldowns and keeping hate. Healers who can keep their group alive and at least try to do some dps IF the party/tank allows to do so. DPS players who at least know a bit of their class and don't just use single target skills.

My expectations are pretty much the same. Basically: know the basics of your job and put in some effort for your team. If you're a tank, you should know how to pull, use your cooldowns, keep hate and do some DPS. If you're a healer, you should keep people alive and do at least a bit DPS when possible. If you're a DD, you should know your basic single target / AoE rotation, use your cooldowns and also use your non-DPS abilities when needed.

For pulls, I expect the tank to do them according to what the party is capable of. If they're pulling just one group at the time and it's obvious the DPS is high and everything is going smoothly, I expect them to try pulling more to increase efficiency. If the tank is pulling many groups at once and the party is obviously struggling, I expect them to pull less for safety.

On yeah, and I expect everyone to be reasonably geared too. Not wearing level 20 stuff for level 50 dungeons etc.

I don't care how long the run takes if people are putting in effort and are accepting advice on how to improve if they are having issues.

After taking a bit of a break from this game, I jumped back and started on finishing PLD and working on RDM.

For me it comes down to if the run feels smooth, and you're having fun. If you meet those two criteria you're good to go.

Lets not look at numbers / time trials and all this other in depth stuff. You start, you get to Boss A. Are you enjoying yourself? Does it feel sluggish? Of course both of these can be separate or directly connected to each other.

It's when you get those people who want to rush or don't want to do anything, because they're bored already or just huff and puff to get this over with. If you're in that mind-set then you need to log out, go do something else. Dress up as Alf & chase the cat. Read a book, go kung-fu fight a possum. Do that come back and these dungeons aren't so bad!

This game is very simple, and relaxing (I just did the Level 50 RDM quest...it tells you how to play the job. Literally! He has it in the lore of the job!). A little common sense and you can do proper rotations. So my expectations is making it feel smooth, and have fun. If you're having a few laughs or into your job then the time frame doesn't seem to matter.

If the team is good and you get through it 5 minutes earlier. Fine. If you got a new guy and need to go "Hey man...stay in that Shield Oath", hopefully they respond with going into S.O and not "Whateva, I do what I want. Stackin' MND materia."

Expecting a fast run in anything but the current Expert Roulette is stupid. Even the 50/60 Roulette is also full of first-timers who are still leveling and won't necessarily have gear comparable to syncced people. A regular newbie will be going through all the 2.x Lv 50 dungeons in at most 110 gear, and 3.x Lv 60 dungeons in at most 240 gear, while vets will easily be wearing equivalent of full 130 and full 270.

Not to mention newbies will most likely have trouble trying to remember all those end-game dungeons in such as short span of time. We had months to get used to each dungeon and that leaves a strong impression. But people who are going through all the level 50 dungeons within a week? Most likely they're overwhelmed by all the guides and info by the time they get to 2.5 dungeons and have difficulty remember which is which.

Same for level 60 dungeons.

Hence it is stupid to expect fast runs in anything but the Expert Roulette, and kicking a DPS for something like, say, doing the same as a veteran tank geared to the teeth is just as stupid.

It adds up. I can speed through Kugane Castle in 10-11 minutes whereas it'll take double that for baby pulls. If I'm trying to cap Creation, you wanting a slow runs means what could taken 30 minutes to knock out three quick runs took an hour.

A lot of people are only in that group content because the game forces them to be there. I wouldn't be surprised if the impatient and judgmental attitudes like many in this thread are the reason we got squadrons and the ability to take them into dungeons. So people who just want to get through the MSQ aren't berated and bullied when they aren't up to someone's exacting standards.

Or maybe the ones who are impatient will use them and I can enjoy DF with the newbs in peace.

Unless people are stating in chat at the beginning that "Hey , I really love this dungeons world, I'm gonna do tiny pulls so I can enjoy it" you're kind of assuming they are doing it simply to spite you or because they don't care about the rest of the partys objectives. Then again, if speed runs are what you're after, probably a PF is a better idea than a DF. Just using DF is accepting your experience is going to vary and demanding performance out of ANY party member beyond basic competency with their class is a bit entitled. I entirely support if someone is not listening to valid (polite or at least respectful) criticism, and if you got party majority, well then you have the power to kick whomever doesn't meet your standards. Random party though? slog through and better luck next time, or take your abandonment debuff and find something 'better" to do if you can't stand it.

DF is the cafeteria, take what you get on your plate , eat it and move on. Get in line again if you wanna retry for the better piece of chicken.

PF is the restaurant, order what you want and complain if it doesn't meet standards.

Don't expect too much of squadrons at first. They won't work on all the dungeons at once, only a limited few initially while they work on adapting the rest of the dungeons.
