this is funny, because not only could they sell non-gener locked gear to everyone and not only female,
but also the fact that THERE ARE MORE MALE-ONLY OUTFITS IN THE MOGSHOP THAN FEMALE-ONLY xD

    Edda
    Y'shtola
    New Y'shtola
    Yda
    Minfilia

    vs

    Aymeric
    Thancred
    New Thancred
    Papalymo
    Urianger
    Cid

all the other gender-locked gear has a male-only and a matching female-only outfit

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.

That's not true for the gender locked gear ingame though

It is for the seasonal gear on the Mog Station (it's not true in-game, but I think that was what Tint meant). I like the casual sexism of some of the descriptions in the store. The bias is really subtle!

"While guys are only sporting a standard pair of spiderweb stockings, the ladies can also enjoy a stylish short skirt."
They gave us some of the less desirable classic Scion outfits to bulk up the male-only numbers on Mog Station after hearing that everyone was upset, then inexplicably went out of their way to unlock Aymeric's hairstyle for no reason later (can I have Minfilia's hair, please?) and retained the in-game gender locks that everyone was complaining about in the first place. If they ever unlock class-locked glamours, the 'balance' of giving us a couple of extra pieces of gear in Mog Station will look even weaker since most of the old Scion gear is cloned already.

I'm disgusted with the whole thing. S-E used to have such a good reputation for catering towards a broad demographic, too.

Well then lets not start to compare the ingame sets because males would definitely lose there. (And lets not count the seasonal events where males got just a recolor of something already existing while females got something new) In the end it would just be nice that we would get a set for every gender every time, be it gender neutral or a version for each one. So we would not have these discussion at all.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Tint's point supports the argument, really. If the real reason that female characters are being favoured is that S-E believe male characters don't make money, they wouldn't be releasing more items (in terms of sets and overall gear pieces, if not actual unique models) in the Mog Station which are locked to male characters. The fact that they are sort of blows the made-up 'fact' that catering to male characters is a waste of development time out of the water. Every single 'fact' that I have heard to support the terrible status quo is easily countered by information directly from S-E themselves, and all of the fake facts are usually fuelled by selfishness or a weird obsession with how 'guys in dresses' will ruin the game, even if the people complaining are not asking for dresses in the first place and are constantly being given 'feminine' clothing as combat gear already.

I'm pretty sure the real reason is very simple and there are just a lot of people on the dev team who happen to think female Miqo'te/Au Ra are hot. But we're all paying the same subscription fee and they don't seem to have any awareness about how frustrating it feels to be one of the forgotten customers every time. S-E's actions don't match their words when these biases creep in to their design philosophy.

I spend quite a lot in the Mog Station, but I won't touch the gender-locked sets.

On the subject of 'how on earth can this look good on a guy?!', other than the floor 100 boss robes perhaps one direction they could have gone in would be the shirt shown here which could match Edda's very nicely? https://www.japanattitude.fr/pants-b...e-p-12892.html

I don't mind wearing the dress as-is - I'd wear it just as well as a female Lalafell, at the very least, and aesthetics are down to personal taste - but I'd wear the heck out of something like that. They could leave the boots as-is and take lots of shortcuts (and even keep the Edda hat, it wouldn't match but it would be a fun cosplay piece and it's not like my head has a masculine shape). Or just any generic vampire-style gear. They already swiped a male-only waistcoat glamour piece and repackaged it as a unisex vampiric top before, so there's still plenty of mileage to be had when it comes to creepy-but-masculine items.

An elegant coat with the same detailing and accessories as the female version would be the proper male equivalent of this sort of style. Something along these lines:

They could reuse the Butler's jacket model as the base and just add a fuller 'skirt/tail' and a bit of frill to match the female version. Ultimately you end up something similar to the High House Justaucorps, but more 'fitted'.

They wouldn't even have to give us unique pants to go with it; it's not like we have a dearth of more-or-less-the-same 'slacks' models we could pair it with (or, more likely, glossy black short-shorts in my case), and SE's perfectly comfortable with the gentlemen going pantsless anyway, as a previous Halloween event showed us.

I am officially ok with them showering us with frilly period shirts and dress coats like the one pictured. I love the Justaucorps.

My concern is that in the recent Live Letter they're already discussing adding more swimsuits in the context of female characters and also bringing up Lyse's outfit without mentioning Hien's outfit as an equivalent. Adding Hien's outfit would provide male characters with an exclusive glamour, a pretty great hairstyle and if they're sensible they could add his facial hair as an option as well. My concern is that much like Aymeric's outfit they'll make Hien's hairstyle available to female characters which will, in turn, further make the amount of options unfairly slanted towards female characters. Unlocking the Minfilia hair for male characters isn't a good solution, either - because that just screws over those of us who want to play men who look and act like men.
