With DoL and DoH the main issue is they are only really going to focus on them once 2.0 is produced in terms of additional content. Aside from housing/gardening and such there's also the finding treasure maps with DoL gathering and specific workshops hidden in strongholds needed to synth certain pieces of gear.
While it doesn't feel like a lot in the grand scheme of things there was the introduction of materia and obtaining said catalyst through gathering. That in itself is a new game mechanic for DoL/DoH, with the next update we can hope that new materias will be added and you never know perhaps they will change the rules of how materia can be mended. Another thing to consider is that one reason said concept is in a very wishywashy stage is the lack of being able to do it through the bazaar and having to trade the item to a trusted person for them to mend. Once that small issue is handled the content for DoL/DoH may feel a tad bigger.
When it comes to the gathering mini-game I seriously don't see any issue with it, at the start it feels tough and it's hard to obtain what you want but as your level raises and you obtain better gear you begin to have better control over what you want. When it comes to gathering the main issue comes with the secondary gathering method with how random and lack of control you have over getting what you'd like. While I haven't really done much fishing I understand the main issue from that comes from how much more time it takes to actually obtain something compared to the other two Land classes as well as the need for bait. However it's that very bait and knowing your environment that grants you better control over obtaining the kinds of fish you would like.
When it comes to people complaining about fishing I kind of feel like they just haven't taken the time to really analyze the data or even see what others have discovered to manipulate the concept in their favor. To be honest I which mining and logging could have more complexity to it and it would be a pity if fishing was dumbed down just cause people thought it was to tough. Maybe once I synth all these ores with goldsmith I'll dive back into fishing and try and use the proper baits to obtain proper fish lol.
I have no doubts they are considering other methods of team based concepts for DoL, while with DoH we have been given the idea of synths that require multiple members to complete but we haven't really seen anything for DoL. What you have to ask yourself though is how do you make the concept of gathering a team based concept. To do that perhaps we need nodes up to grade 10, and I guess the best way to explain it is this. Basically nodes of grade 7+ at level 50 will require teamwork to successfully obtain loot from them. When you try to do a Grade 7 solo at level 50 it'll basically calculate your data and then you know you'll only have 1 cut with 1 try to even get a hit.
Now if you have 2 people it'll calculate your scores and divide by 1.5.
So basically there would still be light party and whatever the 8 party ones called. With a light party you would get 1 additional cut and for 8 party you would get 2 cuts as well as 1 extra attempt when trying to find the right location for the loot.
Now it could work one of two ways. When you find a node you ready yourself, then you wait for others to ready themselves, as that happens you already have the option for "Teamwork" when you select that command a window will open to see which other party members have selected Teamwork from that node. Once all players have selected it you confirm and once everyone confirms it calculates your group skill and determines how many attempts you can try.
Now the way it works is this. It's not so much as working together to attempt one cut but your cuts are determined by everyone skill so each person would still be cutting mining or fishing like they were doing it solo but since they are working with others they have the opportunity to work on nodes that would normally be impossible.
That's just a basic idea of how it could work though, when it comes to something like fishing it could be made more complex in terms of an NM concept where you need 2 fishers working together on one attempt to reel in a fish that you then need a DoW/DoM to slay.
In this same concept as the one above the grade 7-10 nodes would be guarded by some pretty tough monsters and you wouldn't have access to being able to sneak past them so you might need to higher bodyguards to protect you as your group traverses through the dangerous territory to obtain said loot.
There's a lot of ways gathering can go and I to wish to hear more on how they plan on advancing it. While the changes made sound interesting, the fact that those changes won't occur til 2.0 is discouraging and I would guess for many it may be a factor in determining whether they would pay a sub fee to play on. Which is understandable since why pay for a game when the content coming out is doing nothign to advance the play style you wish to play. There's still time though maybe they are hiding something cause I'd really like to see more concepts added to DoL, While I can appreciate the concept of DoL because I also do DoH I understand that those who may just want to be a DoL having a hard time staying focused on that concept because they have nothign much to do but to gather gather and gather some more lol.
