Chemist that can heals with potions at higher potency and no cooldowns. Mad scientist type.
Problem with that is that they use corrupted aether which taints the land and flesh around it. You see its affects in the HW WHM quest-line and while its 'edgy' to be sure its not the DRK kind of edge but the holy shit don't do this kind of edge.
I was thinking along the lines of a healer that actually channels darkness itself which is different from corrupted aether
It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.
I want to be a Blackbosom healer. Complete with frilly dress and scythe.
Course, the tank and any melee DPS are already standing right there and can just use an instant, which is going to be a lot easier than Swiftcast Holy. It's not hard to have Low Blow as a tank in dungeon content, and some of them have GCD stuns they could use instead if it came down to it.
Healers are a bunch that consist solely of concetrated salty rage - we don't need any edge on top of that...
Healer concepts in fantasy tend to revolve around "thought control" and leadership of some kind.
A healer is by definition somebody who cleanses impurities, closes wounds and removes fear and weariness of body and mind.
The light, or positive energy seems like an element perfectly suited for this kind of role. So is "nature" given actual human belief to equate spiritual damage and physical damage.
I don't think we could get anything edgy, considering caring for somebodies life and health contradicts the basic cynicism required to be percieved as edgy.
From a roleplay perspective, necromancers might justify as edgy healers. Yes, they largely raise up armies of the dead and are evil, but that could also mean they're adept at handling and manipulating life force as well.
It depends more on the lore if you actually consider undeath to be some form of evil, dark energy gathered from the void or just some applied use of life magic.
In FFXIV, we see skeletons and the like animated by Void, but we also have Nald'Thal, who is a twin god that represent life and death. That lore should make a suitably edgy healer if you want to build it out that way. There's even a story line involving Sil'dih and Ul'dah about zombie powder you could potentially use for some angst-ridden adventures.
That is probably the closest we will get to an "edgy" healer focused on revenge or at least "proving innocence".
Another part of me is just amused by the thought experiment of playing a healer who reanimates spirits of the dead to serve as their party members. It gives a completely different interpretation of where healers actually find their "friends" for 4-man or 8-man content, and what the Warrior of Light actually does in the story.
It's a bit of a stretch, but you could make an argument to build out a puppet master this way, where they manipulate the dead as puppets and "heal" them to make them function like undead (healing through reinforcing with magic, immune to many status effects through buffs, etc).
