The thing is, im fairly sure the second wave of ninjas on the bridge use the midlander model, making these two highlanders even more mysterious.I imagine it's simply because they don't have an "Othardian" clan model as of yet. Similar to how Yuigiri had a Miqo'te before Heavensward, and how Minfilia and Yda had midlander models when they're supposed to be Highlanders. I would love to see them implement some more clans though, and it's possible they'll do model updates in the future.
Joke answer: "We drank a lot of milk growing up!"
That is a good point. Are they technically a different type of unit than the other ninjas? If I had to guess, they might have made them 'highlanders' in order to give them a silhouette and appearance distinct from the other ninjas there.
Looking through two walk-throughs i can say both the midlander and highlander variant are called "Joi Genin" therefore belonging to the same mob type and name.
Highlanders only differ in height to midlanders save for minor alterations to body strength, so if a large silhuette was intended, max height slider midlander would more than suffice.
Highlanders are largely just, well larger, hyurs. the idea they are exclusive to Gyr abania is largely retconned a little bit I believe. I mean it's clear that Ilsabard has all races as well yet many of them come (according to basic race descriptions which might be out of date) from eorzean locales, it's simply just as likely that all races have migrated themselves to different parts of the world and there likely are highlander easterners much like how there are midlanders.
