Why do some healers feel entitled to receiving commendations?

Well the fact that you solely believe that you're responsible for a groups success is probably why you get no comms I was speaking from my own expierence ppl auto com healers and tanks 90% of the time and the dps are left out so yes what happens in the run does matter but it's usually most of the same crap anyways but a dps knowing their rotation well and doing way above average deserves a com sorry if that doesn't sit right with you...

People don't deserve comms outright for just being a healer, in fact many of the healers I encounter in DF are supremely lazy. But when you go all out, keep everyone topped off, DPS or at times solo heal a primal fight because your co-heal was dead for 90% of it and walk away with no comms, it stings a bit. There are times I've absolutely carried the entire squad and nothing, other times I've been showered with comms on runs where everything was smooth. Unless you play a role regularly and deal with both the good and bad runs then you may fail to appreciate the miracles people pull out of their hats.

There are two types of arrogance. One is an arrogance founded on nothing, and the other is an arrogance founded on experience. I never say "follow me and you'll definitely succeed", since everyone makes mistakes, including myself, and I can't usually carry everyone to victory single handedly. I also don't say "follow me and you'll likely stand a better chance than if you were to believe in yourself", since I don't likely know you, and you might actually be a good player, and the sentiment probably wouldn't tide over regardless. I just come to terms with the idea that good players are good because they have enough retrospect to understand their place properly to some degree, and bad players are the truly arrogant ones that I won't even attempt to communicate with due to the high chance of it creating an even bigger hassle than I'm already dealing with.

I don't go around complaining about every commendation I don't get, but when I am bitter about not receiving a commendation, it's because I deserved to receive them. If I do a poor job, I would be more content with not receiving any than actually getting a commendation, as that would be what I deserve.

Well, the idea is: the players who recieve the commendations are the ones who do the most to help the party succeed. It's a way of saying 'thanks.' Tanks get them a lot because Tanks are the ones who come closest to dying in a good run, while hopefully setting a good pace, and kicking in some solid damage. Ditto for healers because they take care of the whole group. But if you read many of the responses in this thread, comms are just arbitrarily given out or denied for the lamest reasons imaginable. Healers play a boring role, tanks play a dangerous role, but if someone perfidiously decides you haven't played to the standards of the support role he himself refuses to play as (looking at you people who level tanks and healers but never run dungeons as them), they won't do anything except mock you or complain. Screw it. Commendations are dumb and should be done away with.

But comms are really a /shrug to me. I take no insult in not getting them and I am indifferent when I get them.
Of course I don't need to feel validated for sneezing either.

Wow this thread blew up in a day. Wish I noticed it when it wad only a few pages. FYI, I did not read every post. Now I main SCH, and yes I do tend to get commies for being a healer. But, I get commies on all 3 of my jobs. My friends tell me it's this hi macro I created. I generally try and be a nice person, cause honestly being a douche is too much work. I joke if I can, admit to mistakes, some that arent even mine and I just try to enjoy myself. I don't expect a commie, bit it is a nice feeling when you see 3 or more coming your way. I have 4,127, I must be doing something right. And I know it might seem braggy to post my number, I'll post a pic if anyone wants proof. But, I'm proud of that number, because in some way I stood out. And to a shy, introverted, depressed person, something trivial like that can mean everything, because it makes me feel like I am able to contribute to something; when I feel like I contribute nothing to society.

When people keep eating aoes, I have to use all my CDs, pushing my mp down to near zero from raises, hitting lb3 to save a wipe with 6/8 dead. I am doing more work then the best DPS in the world, sorry if that doesn't sit right with you. I do not speak out on it at all, and once someone did it for me, saying me and a tank (not both just one) where the only ones doing the fight correctly and the reason why we beat it. I should get coms in those cases. Stop assuming healers get coms all the time because it is not the case, and it does sing a bit when we clearly carry and get none because people of your mind set. I was wondering why I do not get coms in those cases. So no it is not "I solely believe" It is a fact and I had others say something about it before. If you are suggesting it is from asking for coms in those cases, no I do not do that.

Most people don't even pay attention to look at what others in the group is doing to notice a " save" of whatever from what I've seen. But I do se more of healers andtanks getting the comms mostly cause people are condition to think that way. How many people make the joke DPS players are - insert any joke here- all the time? 9 times out of 10 they wil get comms just for being there. It's wrong, but that's what people do. I kindof go out my way to comm the other DPS if I see that they were putting in the work. Most of the time I don't really comm anyone but thats because people jet out the dungeon before it can pop up.

I feel like I'm getting more commendations as a healer then I ever did as a tank.

I make it a note to push out as much DPS as possible, so maybe that helps.
