If you feel slighting for not getting a lil extra acknowledgement for doing what you are supposed to do in a digital dungeon, may I suggest never leaving your bedroom lol
As a red mage I feel entitled to commendations when I repeatedly raise the healer, preventing full party wipes.
And maybe it is some sort of "small" critque? And just maybe thats not a totally bad thing? But here is how you should deal with getting (or not getting commendations) in my opinion:
First off - dont take the whole thing to seriously or to much to heart. If this thread shows one thing again its that people give out commendation for lots of reasons, not only because of great performance (seriously, as long as you dont mess up horribly you'd get mine just for being a FemRoe).
Second: If you feel you'd deserved a commendation but didnt get one, ask yourself "Was there someone better in the run? Who might deserved that commendation more than me, so they got it?" - or, even better, re-evalute yourself and ask "Mmh, that wasnt enough it seems, so how can I improve?"
I main a tank and I couldnt care less about the commendations I get for tanking dungeons. I dont feel "slighted" or criticized when I dont get one - if someone does feel that way however, they might need to work on their attitude, specially if they're a tank or healer and seem to just expect getting a commendation for doing their job.
And to answer "Who needs that?": While I dont care about my tank-commendationsm, I do care a little about the ones I'm getting as healer in PvP - because those feel like a pat on the back.
We dont need to reward participation alone all the time. We dont need to put people in that kind of bubble wrap. Sometimes someone else just did better than you and you just need to be able to deal with that.
...and if you cant, if it truely upsets you that someone didnt thought you were special enough to recive their commendation: Ignore the whole system and focus on your "Completed duties"-achievment. Because there you go - stickers for just running dungeons are already in the game! (...granted they could need some actual rewards... but they're there.)
I'm seeing it this way: Getting a commendation is nice - not getting one doesnt bother me. Seems like a healthy stance to me - if someone cant deal with not getting a commendation I kinda pity them.
Do you do the full first 3 pulls with i265-270 people in one pull? Just wondering. As a tank I do not do that unless I trust both DPS and the healer to be better then your average DF runner, skill wise. Mega pulls like that can wipe if you have a bad dps (unless the healer is god, I had such a healer once in the 61 DF on that huge pull you do on that boss. Was impresed as hell how long I was kept up for because the other DPS didn't know what an aoe skill was (plus I think that person had some i130-i200 gear in random slots in the right side, think even that lv 30 exp ring)) Yeah that was not fun.First of all if you're having trouble with any large pull in Bardam's Mettle you're either woefully under-geared for the dungeon or not using your toolkit to its full potential to put things politely. Source: have done barrier to barrier pulls with the full party at ~i265-i270. If you're marking enemies past level30, you are not a good tank full stop. The exception is in savage but you'll usually verbally communicating those things anyway. That and you're acting like healers and tanks don't make mistakes and that dps don't have utilities they use to support the party as well.
Everyone's job becomes more difficult based on other members performance. Healers do not deserve commendations for queueing up as the job they chose to queue up for more than anybody else. People commend whoever they like or no one at all. None should feel entitled to a comm more than anyone else.
In the end of the day healers and tanks have the most slack to cover for in the case of bad dps. If we are talking everyone being at least being competent, then yeah no role deserves a com more then another, but if a tank, like PLD needing to use Clemency more then normal, or a healer casting more raises and healing more then normal due to "standing in bad" then i say they deserve a com.
If there is something going on, say tank just being average while a BRD/MCH uses refresh, or a caster that uses manashift without being asked, I will com them. I also am willing to com DPS for well timed LBs. I com whoever is taking an extra step over the rest depending what is going on. The only time I do not com anyone is when everyone is subpar or if the only one doing the extra left too fast.
In a raid setting? I would definitely give you a com, or raising for me when I am hurting on mp because of a bad co healer. For 4 man? sure why not , if I make a mistake and you raise me without being asked (A few times I have to ask/tell SMN) I would give a com to. I remember a SMN not willing to hard cast raise despite both healer being dead and my co would not raise me, not coming that, we almost wiped from it.

trials? lamo OKAY! *ignores* or was it some hard trial where the healer carried? I gotta admit I got tempted on a few Zurvan runs to saying that. I had to raise people as SMN once, then a full wipe was prevented by me because it allowed the healer to LB3 (Only me as SMN and a tank was alive)

I never said that you said I was a bad tank, you outright called someone a bad tank for marking enemies a few pages back. That is first off not true and second of all rude. I am also a healer main. You seem to be really offended at the idea that tanks and healers don't need DPS in the same way DPS need tanks and healers to the point of mental gymnastics to avoid that fact.
I have said numerous times at this point that despite the overall importance disparity between support and damage roles does not entitle support roles to anything extra, particularly something so rooted in personal choice.
I haven't argued with you, I criticized you for personally attacking another person and then poked holes in the notion that DPS are as essential to party composition as tanks and healers.
At this point if you just don't further personally attack anyone or continue this logically unsound narrative of complete role equality then we can let this drop. On the subject of the thread I have no issue with you, only with how you've conducted yourself.
Someone argued that dps are "bad" if they do not follow a tank's markers. I challenged it with "past a certain point the tank shouldn't be using markers in the first place." If that is a personal attack to you, then I don't know what to tell you other than your reaching for motivations that are not there. "You" is not always referring to the person being spoken to and often is used in the Royal sense in most general discussion. But forgive me next time I'll spend the extra 5 characters to add the clunky "royal" every time I'm having a video game discussion on the internet /kappa.
All roles are equally important to a smooth dungeon/ trial run. There is nothing logically unsound about this. What's logically unsound is your insistence that a comparison between excellent healers/ tanks and mediocre dps is a accurate measure of overall role worth.
I always give it to the dps unless they are absolutely dreadful then noone gets one, I won't give it to the healer or tanks becuase they always get one....When I leveled my tanks and healers I would always get 3 comms and would think to myself "that certain dps was really good why didn't they get three instead of the one I gave them" just my personal opinion and experience

In a good group, it's arguable that it's even worth it to put the DoT up, because stuff will just die too quick anyway.
