What would you do if you THINK you see inappropriate name?

Why would you say that? It's hurtful and disrespectful.

Why do people find the word S**t offensive? Well to find that out we have to tell a story and I'll try to keep it short:

There once was a king know to his people as Edward the Confessor. He was know as this because he never wanted to be king, the poor chap just wanted to be a monk. Similarly his wife Edith of Wessex wanted to be a nun. And so it came to be that their marriage was never consummated and then he died.

The death of a king, and no offspring to take the throne, resulted in a fierce dispute between three men. These men were, William the conqueror duke of Normady(or William the bastard), Harold Godwinson, the powerful Earl of Wessex; and the Viking King Harald III of Norway, known as Harald Hardraada.

In what is know as the Norman Invasion there is a very important battle to take note of. The battle of Hastings. While Harald and Harold fought in the north of England, William made his way to London. After his victory over Harald, Harold heard of Williams plans, and made his way south in 5 days time. Because news happens to travel fast in these times, William heard of Harold's march from London and left the castle with his army and advanced towards the enemy.

The actual battle took place about 7 miles from Hastings and lasted all day. After much fighting Harold II was killed in the battle. Legend has it that he was shot through the eye with an arrow because a rumor was started within the battlefield that the new king was dead! Trying to set right the rumor, like all good citizens, Harold removed his helmet and shouted to his troops that he was still alive.

And so William the Conqueror became the king ending the Anglo-Saxon reign in England. He brought with him Frenchmen and awarded them high standing offices for their help in claiming his crown. This led to a shift in language among the high class from the Anglo-Saxon to French.

People began to use more and more French words, because it was the language of the nobles. Because of this words that were used on a daily basis became taboo because it was not noble to speak Anglo-Saxon anymore. This is why you can help your mother spread manure but you better not call it S**T!

I'm not really so much offended by that word but, there are other words. . . hurtful ones. . . that people (And me) don't like being called or having it said near them.

I totally understand what the example is. And it makes sense.
What I am saying is, there are other words that are REALLY hurtful.
EX: There is a word that 'White' people would call slaves and African Americans. Now, if someone (Doesn't matter what race they are. But, it is more hurtful coming from a "White" man) calls an African-American that name then well, it is demeaning, disrespectful, racist, etc.
This is a more serious case than others.

And really, why do people NEED to curse? Is it REALLY needed?

Though I think this has gotten a little off topic.

ANYWAYS,
I usually just laugh at people's names and move on.
I have yet to see one name that I thought was so offensive that I had to B-list someone. (Actually I havent B-listed anyone. . .) But, I would if I felt that it was that bad.

Not trying to censor you but, what I am trying to say is: If someone finds a word or phrase to be offensive, don't use it in front of them at least. And you should also think as to why they might find it offensive.

that depends on what i say. if i am in a group like my static i play with all the time and someone comes into the group and doesn't like the discussions they are welcome to leave. i am not changing my behavior for someone else. if i say something they feel is offensive they are welcome to tell me what they find offensive, but if it is something that i do in fun with that group with nothing rude meant by it then i will not be changing. if it's a simple word that is taken out of context and they take it the wrong way i'll explain my position on it.

Yeah, I don't mind people cursing around me. Students at my school cuss right in my teachers' faces and get no punishment.
But, if it is racial, prejudice, or directed towards someone in a hurtful way, That's not cool.

No, because I am not responsible for anyone's feelings or opinions but my own. If they are offended at any words, they can take responsibility for their own feelings and opinions of those words and do as they see fit - as long as it does not involve trying to control me, physically hurt me or censor me.

I could say the same to you - then what? We just keep trying to control and censor each other based on our own feelings and opinions that only belong to ourselves and no one else? No, thank you. I will pass on that offer. I will be responsible for my own feelings and opinions and not force them upon anyone else, but I refuse to be responsible for yours or anyone else's nor allow others to force them upon me, sorry.
