Now that you mention it, the movie "Freaks" actually covers almost exactly how this might play out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freaks

Basically, it's a lalafell-sized man who's in a relationship with a lalafell-sized woman, but inherits a large amount of money and leaves her for a "normal" woman (who plots to kill him for the money, but that's not how I envisioned this going down).

I mean, the movie is called "Freaks" partially because it's set on Earth where being a little person isn't the norm, whereas lalafells are just another common race of Eorzea so there's not as much precedent.

Still, there was that one quest in Camp Bronze Lake where there was a gay couple (highlander man and a man'qote) who were shunned by the highlander's family because he was in a relationship with a cat person (not for being gay), but that's one of the few instances I can recall of any evidence of actual racism in XIV.

If it were more common, it would make a good deal more sense for a lalafell to doubt if a tallfolk female is right for him, but pretty much every lecherous lalafell you encounter in the game is interested only in non-lalafell women.

That case could also be that even SE hates man'qotes.....or maybe there's some story excuse about how a man'qote wouldn't be as much of a social benefit outside of a tribe.

Lalafell wouldn't normally have such a dilemma either way because despite some evil ones, they are still generally loved and appreciated by other races. Plus Lalafell are either filthy rich or in a state in which money is a non-issue, both of which would make them more desirable in society.

People will find anything weird regardless. If you want to make it, just do it. You shouldn't be concerned about that unless you are trying to sell it to a client, imo. From what I've learned people can't see past appearances; a miqo'te wearing little - wench, a lalafell anything - child. Yes, I'm making use of common tropes here. Lorewise they are not, PCs are a case to case issue. Certain faces, hairstyles, choice of clothing and dye and behaviour can make one appear younger, regardless of race. I'd argue that a good portion of female miqo'te, au ra and midlanders look underage.

If lalafells had those features instead of the more common mmo chibi kid-esque im sure more people would have a less difficult time seeing a chibi like form and not associating it with a child. Thing is in most mmos there is a cutesy chibi type and this ones ours because there are people who want that too. The only time it really plays a factor to me, however, is in rp, where no offense lalas but they just don't do it for my muses^^:
My sentiments echo Kyri's, pretty much. It's just appearance wise, I know they are adults, as how I perceive them in the lore.. like hobbits. The cute factor is to lull you into a false sense of security, that's when we strike In all seriousness, since when did a creative person let others dictate how they express themselves? Bunnychain is right, whatever you create is going to be viewed from a subjective standpoint, do it and be d***ed! I look forward to seeing the finished creation, and good luck.

We also have Pipin who is a very prominent army general, and Nanamo as the Sultanate.

There's plenty of proof already with Lalafel being adults. In fact there's nothing to suggest otherwise. We even had two Lalafel chucking two Hyur through the air out the miner's guild in 1.0. If there are people that aren't convinced that they're adults then they're just never going to be convinced. They've made up their minds and won't let the game tell them anything.
In addition, two lalafell figure prominently in the Pugilist 1-30 questline. All in all, I agree some people have made up their mind that lalafell are creepy children.

However, there are lots of players who like the lalafellin race. For example, I see them as heroes, companions, friends, and antagonists. They are my muses.

Whether I see them as children or not, that still leaves one very important question...

Where are the ACTUAL Lalafell children?! I mean, ever since I saw Khloe, I started wondering.

I don't see many Lalafells as I only log on late and it's past their bedtime.

The great majority of real-life dwarves do not look like children. Lalafell DO. Even the ones with facial hair look like children with fake moustaches and beards pasted on. It is not surprising that some folks feel a bit of discomfort when they think of Lalafell in situations that would be inappropriate for children in real life.

Perhaps not everyone has trouble with that mental hurdle, but there's no shame in it if you do.
