Yeah, this is something that caught me by surprise when I first started playing the game and seeing that race is such a non-issue in the story to the point where you could nearly switch races of characters and still pretty much wind up with the story completely unchanged.

As for why I used Roxanne as an example, yes, it is primarily for people that don't know much of Eorzea. However, using the main character of C.D., the obstacle wasn't the big nose so much as the doubt created by it. With a Lalafell, the case could be roughly the same; while there is no social stigma against marrying someone of a taller race, there may be a similar obstacle of doubt created in the mind of the Lalafell by what makes them different from their love interest.
