Problem is SE always been terrible at balancing jobs. Having a wyvern as a part of the class is asking for drg to be gimp.

Does Colonel Sanders have a pet chicken?
Does Blade have a pet vampire?
R[̲̅ə̲̅٨̲̅٥̲̅٦̲̅]ution
and there we are again player who chosed to be lancer because of ifrit videos and being one of the better dmg dealer now are afraid to get "gimped"... drg so or so would go into the dmg dealer role... wether with or without pet.. the dmg will be just a little splitted. besides that you would maybe be able to perform WS on your own.
YOU THINK it will be like.. but doesnt SE goes different ways now? jumping... mounts besides chocobos etc.?
and i dont think a drg was gimped in FFXI i did almost the same dmg than a dark, well just at least. I'd say a little bit more.
you are wrong been Lancer since beta, in fact this debate has been going on long before the Ifrit fight and even then the majority did not want a wyvern petsometimes it seems to me in this dragoon /wyvern discussion... that all lancers want to see them doing XXXXDMG on their own... instead of splitted up with two charas.
well i hate the fact that lancer became so popular since the ifrit videos on youtube. it seems to me they picked the class because its THE damage dealing melee class at the moment.. and thats why they want no wyvern pet
<------> pe*** size
well i will accept both of types now... im looking forward to what SE is doing about the drg job. lets see if its stylish enough without the wyvern... well lets see.
no blade is a vampire himself ;D does a hunter in WoW have a pet`? does a beastmaster have a pet? does the warlock have a pet? blablabla*
does it make the hunter or warlock gimped? hell no. on the opposite
because they are afraid that it will be the same like in FF11.. (although i think he was a good dd in FF11). MOST of the people didnt took the wyvern dmg and breath attacks into account (which is stupid imho). it was like a warrior with polearm + wyvern dmg + tactically things like healing breath etc
i would personally prefer both types. because THEN i could kick your asses up in pvp with my "gimpy" wyvern.TWO are better then ONE
i would make a hunt on all you non-wyvern drg's ^^
PAH
well im looking forward to that what SE will offer to us DRG players... but i dont think that drg will be more "exciting" than lancer is. it will be almost the same. but well, lets see if they have some "stylish" skills for us.
For me coming from DarkAgeOfCamelot (16 classes per realm - where many are really innovative and new) simple classes are not that exciting to me. a polearm wielding class is nothing special to me. its like "hm ok, saw that before. a polearm footsoldier"

Let it be known that I love pet jobs. Dragoon was my only 75 job in FFXI (back when that was still cap) and I've carried that fondness over to other MMOs. To me this isn't about making Drg a pet class or not, its about making a new variation on a classic Final Fantasy job. So no, I'm looking for a non-wyvern version of Drg this time around. Personally I would like to see the Drg be the one actually pulling off the awesome breathe attacks, being able to use the blunt end of our pointy sticks, and of course beautiful beautiful Jump.
Now if Yoshi-P and the rest of the staff decide to give Drg a wyvern then there is nothing wrong with that and I will still be pleased and play one of the greatest of Final Fantasy's classes. The balancing shouldn't be an issue, yes the Drg will do less damage by him/herself but the Wyvern makes up for that. The system works in FFXI, WoW, Rift, *insert other MMO here*, etc. So if that's what happens then that is what happens and I will gladly fight beside my Muffin once again but I would still rather see this Drg taken into a different direction.
TL: DR - Do not want FFXI Dragoon HD
Oh this dude is going to call me out like this. Here's a newsflash buddy.and there we are again player who chosed to be lancer because of ifrit videos and being one of the better dmg dealer now are afraid to get "gimped"... drg so or so would go into the dmg dealer role... wether with or without pet.. the dmg will be just a little splitted. besides that you would maybe be able to perform WS on your own.

I started XI 2 weeks after NA release, drg been my 1st job to 75. I played when Penta Thrust gave you TP for each hit connected. However, truth of the matter is if you think drg wasn't gimped you're completely delusional.
DRG had crappy abilites, stats, gear choices, modifiers, etc, take your pick! It wasn't until bird parties post TOAU and numbers of adjustments that drgs became desirable and only for bird parties at that.
HNM/endgame linkshells avoided drgs like a plague. Sure there were some drgs that were in there but most of them had their gear because of a "useful" job they had leveled for LS purposes.
I dont want to play Lancer, I want to play DRG just like I wanted in XI but ended up playing other jobs because of how gimp DRG there was.
Seems to me you have no idea what you're talking about there buddy.
i know that drg in FFXI wasnt that popular.DRG had crappy abilites, stats, gear choices, modifiers, etc, take your pick! It wasn't until bird parties post TOAU and numbers of adjustments that drgs became desirable and only for bird parties at that.

BUT what has a drg + wyvern in FFXIV has to do with the drg in FFXI? has it to be the same like it?
i mean with lancer you yet have abillities like TP generating haste etc. like the samurai had. getting a wyvern would not effect those skills or do you think they would delete kind of these or weaken them that hard? i think it would be the matter of the FFXIV dev team from TODAY (and not from the FFXI dev team from 10 years ago!!)
and well yes i think, the players mostly only looked at drg stats in FFXI (oh he has 5 points less accu than a drk has) wew.. he is such a gimp. i played drg as well and always compared the damage between me and other melee classes (wyvern damage added) and couldnt say that my dmg was gimp in comparison to drk for example. or that i missed THAT more often. so harsh havent the stats been in FFXI . polearm had lower delays as well in comparison to samurai and drk weapons. he hit more often within a time period.
at this point you really can say: what a pitty there hasn't been a Damage-*penis*-meter like in WoW. (although i hate kind of addons like those)
because thats what most people are searching for in any MMO it seems. I CHOSED DRG IN FFXI BECAUSE of playstyle, fun, appearance and the role, and of course that i have been a damage dealer (not in the majority) and the DRG poll we saw in the other thread is a mirror of this!
