Nice simple solution. WoW implemented this in Legion, and it's a runaway success (to my knowledge--haven't touched it since Highmaul).
I'd also really like if they gave us an easy way to apply glamours to our retainers.

Reallydo not get why they decided to give us more inventory space when that is going to reqire a lot more storage than a wargrobe with a strict requirement to unlock pieces.
So one could assume that one inventory space takes a few integers (item id,quanity, durability, color and multiple materia) so well over 32 bits of data. Yet a wardrobe could cut up to 67 pieces of gear (all armor, weapons and accessories for a tier) into one bit.
As someone who has played a lot of GW2, I have to say that I love this system and that I would love to see it in FFXIV, especially if they could combine glamouring and dyeing into the same interface.
FFXIV is the MMORPG with the most beautiful armor sets I have ever played, but saving them for glamouring is really challenging.
Also give us an option to not get items from field/dungeon enemies.
It would be nice if we could get the lootlist from 1.x back. The lootlist temporarily stored your last 10 items to be looted between you and your party, allowing you to quickly and easily roll on each, assign it to a given player, and was slated to have filters attached, more slots dependent on party size, and additional roll systems, all with a much more condensed UI than the current WoW-style individual loot boxes (which in swapping to also cost us the ability not to auto-loot junk or common materials and/or easily pass it to others).
