Lol... how many think this? Ok i am going to respect your opinion, but at the same time I expect you respect mine.

crafting and gathering IS THE PRIMARY CONTENT! the other stuff is just additional content. If the story was really intended to be the main content, it should been a 1000 times better. In either event, it shouldn't be gating content. SE did not even do it in FFXI for crying out loud ( least not to this degree, I explained the parallel thing)

Either way, I suppose it comes down to this. Do you want easily accessible raiding with not very demanding gameplay and don't really care much about the story? Play WoW.

Do you want an interesting story and demanding gameplay, but can live with the fact that the raiding is locked behind the story? Play FFXIV.
The raiding is not demanding here... it is just memorizing scripted events.

The same could be said for pretty much all content across all MMOs I've played, outside of PvP. Heck, even a lot of single player games with scripted boss fights would fall under the umbrella of 'just memorize the scripted events.'

I hate when people share their opinions and immediately get shut down.
Game is not perfect. Like, whenever someone says something even the slightest negative
about this game, you best be in Shield Oath. All the aggro coming your way!
OP even stated he like the games story, and other things on it but the end-game
is bad...I can't speak for the thousands of players but I am sure a lot think
end-game isn't all that great. :/ It really isn't...It's missing something.
Also sucks gear is obsolete within a patch so you don't really feel accomplished
by your work. It's just a treadmill that dies out in a few months, just get another
treadmill that'll die at the same time frame.

You're trying to compare apples to oranges and call them both a banana. 3.0 and 4.0's MSQ gated access to new areas, meaning you simply couldn't go to them early for one reason or another. But you're arguing that in 2.0 the Sultana plotline should have locked you from reentering Ul'dah, even though you'd been freely able to access it up to that point. Those aren't the same. One is locking access to new areas, one is robbing access from a major area you could visit freely before. Big difference.

I'm also not sure what area phasing has to do with any of this. Area phasing is for when you have a bunch of people in the same space, but for story reasons it should look different to each of them. Not sure how that would be necessary or even work in this situation.

People are free to share their opinion, just like everyone else is free to share their opinion by disagreeing with it. If you want to sit in an echo chamber of agreement you're going to need to find a way to clone yourself.

Who complained about not having anything to do? The story is primary content? Serious, no seriously??(that is actually how i would ask you in real life with a shocked look on my face) I can not consider something primary with such a low ratio of game play. You and probably most of the posters in this thread haven't done a MSQ in weeks if not longer. Yet you have logged in and played. If the MSQ was primary it would eclipse other content in game play. The only way it does is the fact that the other game play is gated behind it. Half the defenders probably wouldn't even do the MSQ if they could open all other content some other way.
The stories are the entire foundation upon which the game is built. It's ludicrous to deny that. "Low ratio"? Seriously? There is more main story (and side story) content in FFXIV than there is any other type. Add all the dungeons, all the raids, all fates, all the pvp, all the crafting/gathering, and it still won't hold a candle to the amount of story content. Heck the raids and dungeons are tied intrinsically to main and side stories.

    The stories ARE the game.

Just because people would take the quickest path of least resistance to get what they want doesn't mean that they should or that the developers should encourage it.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

You can have opinions but saying "Go back to X game" doesn't make much for discussion.
No one has yet talked about End-game minus me, which OP seems to be talking about the most.
I guess people here are content with the content giving end-game?

What are you even defining as content? As someone who enjoyed WoW a lot, I don't really consider trash content. The only time I really though it was relevant was in certain locations like Ulduar and AQ40 as it drove home just how massive those areas were. For the most part though it was just cast (insert class relevant AoE) and afk.

From Vanilla to Cata, the only other thing I could imagine you're thinking about is grinding dailies or reputation.

FF14 isn't perfect but it is a sold game. It's design isn't going to suit everyone but it never will. People want different things in games and there is always a compromise.

FF14's story actually has very few plotholes. The explanation for things can sometimes not be obvious but it is there if you go around investigate a bit. Case in point is the end of 2.X. You pretty much could walk around Ul'dah because the people who recognised you either didn't believe the rumors (your a famous hero after all), weren't willing to risk themselves challenging you (your a famous hero after all) or just didn't know what you look like. Eorzea doesn't exactly have TV so most Eorzeans would only have a rough description of what the WoL looked like and even then they are probably expecting someone 8 feet tall and clad in armour of pure light. Stories tend to exaggerate the truth.

WoW has pretty different raiding. Yoshi P has said before he would like to do more tiers of difficulty for the raiding and broaden that content but his team currently lacks the staff to do it and not because of lack of hiring. Its just hard to find Battle designers of high enough calibre who speak Japanese, are willing to work in Japan and have the experience to integrate quickly into the FF14 team. FF14 does have a roughly 15 week content patch cycle so it offsets size of updates with frequency.

We don't need another "raid or die" mmo. There's penty of those to choose from and there's a reason people like me aren't playing them.
What does "raid or die" even mean?

If you're referring to no other form of endgame progression besides raiding, I have bad news for you: raiding is the only real endgame XIV has.

WoW actually has it beat in that regard because WoW's PvP system is far more in depth than XIV's. Though XIV still has it beat in total number of side pursuits (and if they DO add a glamour log, it'll have WoW even MORE beat).

"Take the money that you were giving to this game I like and go give it to some other company instead."

No one who's actually a fan of XIV would ever say something like this...
