I lvled from 1 to 70, no potions. I mean endgame content.
I lvled from 1 to 70, no potions. I mean endgame content.

So you just level one job? No crafts? Not working on a relic weapon? just lvl 1 job and do raids? Don't help new people get stuff done? I'd be bored too in that case. Sounds like you were much happier on WoW. I think it still exists, maybe you could go back? I hate to see someone so unhappy with this game, I absolutely love it.
I'm not unhappy with the game, I like it quiete a lot. But that doesnt mean there are no negatives to it, which are the ones I pointed out. And no, I dont like playing with alts, nor proffesions. Relic weapons are just cosmetic, dont care. I play for the endgame content and the satisfaction of clearing it when its relevant.
I think this game just lacks the hardcore pve community WoW has, I can't imagine a WoW expansion launching without a proper raid with no one complaining ...

FFXIV is not a hardcore pve game. It never has been as far as I can tell. FFXIV is as casual as casual gets and if you're expecting that to change you're going to be woefully disappointed.
Could FFXIV do with a few more quality of life features? Sure. But it doesn't need to be WoW 2.0. FFXIV is not a "raid or die" game. It is not an "endgame is all that matters" game. It is not just another in a string of WoW clones with the same type of priorities and development.
The entire point of FFXIV is the Main Story. That's why its mandatory. Could the 100 quest leadup from ARR to HW be pruned? Sure, no one will argue that its got way too much filler in it. But there's a reason FFXIV lacks the "hardcore pve community wow has"... and that reason is this game is not WoW and it will never be WoW and it will never live up to your expectations if you're looking for another WoW.

I find it hard to believe that the main thing of XIV is the story. If that's so, why is there a skip-all potion?
People to play catch up?
People to not drudge through boring fetch quest that was 2.0?...SE being greedy? Lol.
Sure, this is a Final Fantasy game, but content and replayabilty must come first. The story should not.
Why? Because this is a MMO, something has to keep the majority here, and that's new and fun stuff in the game.
Game has been the same for nearly 4 years and the boring patterns follows each patch.
I might get a lot of backlash and hate here but again, this is a MMO. I'm not 100% here for the story
and I am a fan of the FF series, but for me (FOR ME) this has to be one of the worst FF stories I have ever read.
And don't come to me talking about FF13 (I know everyone hates the hell out that game lol), this is my opinion and for the record FF13:LR is the worst.
I just think people should calm down about the OP because he does makes some points. I know nothing
of WoW or FFXI or anything like that and I know a lot of people enjoy the story here and that's great! But again,
I think they need to work on content and do much more
than the same things that have been doing. It's wearing people down, and people are getting bored quicker and quicker
by the patch. Just fyi, leveling to max is where the fun ends...I already maxed 3 jobs and I'm sad I'm done because end-game
is not all that great.

Completely agree, there is nothing wrong with liking the story, that is not the point. The point is, that it should not be gating content. if you want to craft and gather and JUST DO THAT ( I did this for most of 2.0, then I started to level a second chr for battle only) only to see my main to get gated out of content because of MSQ gating. I should have a right to chop at cedar trees without having to read how the writers wrote themselves in a corner because they wanted give a lore excuse why players can't go somewhere yet that is visible.
This is my first chr, my true main:
My alt:
this happened because of the gating, I wanted a split battle chr and crafter because of inventory issues but the F*** MSQ gating stopped me of that goal. So you know what? if they are going to force us to MSQ and try force us in playing one chr they better give us inventory and correct game content that goes with it. (like change the 450/ week gating for all jobs) Game eats too much time between MSQ gating (making it hard to have alts) and lack of space.

Now, one thing I would be OK with is perhaps if you wanted to craft and gather only, perhaps a secondary way could be found into the Heavensward and Stormblood areas. Perhaps have the story revolve around how you are some super famous well known crafter/gatherer and that they would love to do business with you? I'm not so sure. I want to keep the story engaging, but at the same time I can understand the concerns here. Just outright removing the gating so a level 1 fresh newbie can go to Ishgard, that I don't want. But a non-battle character who has developed a reputation for their crafting and/or gathering being invited in? That I can accept.

The leveup potion thing is a recent addition added solely to help facilitate new people being able to jump ahead to play with friends. It wasn't the best way to facilitate that in my opinion but it was a quick and easy (and less costly in development time/money) way to do so.
The story is the backbone of FFXIV. Paying to skip the story is paying to skip the game and paying to skip the game and then complaining you have nothing to do is stupid.
The story IS the primary content. The stuff gated by the story is just additional content.
You cant have the story as primary content in an MMO. I agree that the story is important in FF14 but it should never be more important than gameplay. This is not a single player game where people buy the game once, play through it one time (or more) and be done with it. This is a game that needs constant money to make more patches and the story alone cant do that. You see this already in this forum where not even one month after the expansion went live, people already complained about having nothing to do. I really did take my time with the story but if you just play a few hours each week you will be through this in less than two months. (And I would dare to say that most will take way less time) You need content after the story to keep people subbed because otherwise you will not make enough money to continue patching the game.
I am still not sure why we did not get something like Eureka from the very beginning. In the end SB is the same as HW just with another paint when it comes to endgame. Heck when I log in I just do yellow script farming even though I know that crafted gear is better, because I simply have nothing better to do in this game right now (Palace is sadly death for me thanks to all the DC..) and I cant take a longer break or I will lose my house..
Yes if you start the game you will mostly have a lot of things to do. Otherwise that would be quite strange. Also yes most of us are veterans that are here for quite some time.
Also please can we stop posting that one can only complain if they finished everything in this game? I mean if we go that way none of us should ever complain if all the devs ever did from now on is introducing huge achievements that can only be done in years of work and nothing more...(Like: Do 100.000 fates..)because we have something to do right? Not every content is for everyone and most of the things on your list are nothing more than side content.
I love glamour gear but dont have much inventory space left to store it, I have lots of mounts and minions, and all free emotes, I do lots of gathering and soon will start SB crafting, I am max rang with my company and have max rang with my commando. I leveled all the beast tribes and done most of the side quests in the game (only some SB ones left for alt jobs)..I have lots of achievements done..yet I also feel that there is barely anything left to do that is truly fun and new.
Its kinda sad how some react to the post from the OP. I dont agree with everything but its just his opinion as a new player that still quite enjoys the game but have some things that would make it even better for him and yet some react like he somehow hates the whole game or something..
@OP: Please calm down a bit. ^^; I can understand that you are frustrated since you posted some criticism and some people just wrote that you should go back to WoW. (And yes I feel like some might take criticism a bit like a personal attack against them) But going around and call people mentally ill is not a good thing to do. This will only bring even the people that are on your side of the arguments against you and might lock the topic. Better to stay nice even after all the "go back to" posts.
But I agree that its sad that a comparison between two games from the same genre often gets quite the negative responds. I for example can easily say that FF14s story is way better told than for example Rifts story. Yet at the same time Rift does housing way better than FF14. I did not play WoW but I have a friend that played it from the beginning till now and also plays FF14 and he does say that WoW does endgame fights better. Its his opinion and not necessarily a fact but lets be honest, those points will alway be subjective. I also see no reason not to compare MMOs. I mean even Yoshida mentions those in his interviews and even said that he was influenced by them.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Regardless of its namesake, a MMO doesn't have the luxury of relying on story to be its primary focus. It took me no more than a week finish the Stormblood MSQ. Even for someone committing only a handful of hours, it simply won't last even half the length of our current patch cycle. Subsequent MSQ updates through patches amount to an hour or two at most. Gameplay has to fill this gap hence the numerous time gates to limit progression so we don't force ourselves ahead. I've found other things to do, but that is because I play half the jobs, am an Omni-crafter and more recently, have gotten back into roleplaying. If you're only interested in battle content, there is... very little. You have three dungeons, two laughably easy primals and Savage. That isn't a lot.
