I've typically taken the approach of picking crit gear where I can. I've generally loved getting more Adlo/Succor crits, because they are a thing of beauty. I think I managed to push about 22% during Heavensward, with two or three upgrades I wanted, I'd have pushed 24-25%. At least based on the crit calculators I used at the time.

But as said, more SS means more DPS and you may decide you'd rather balance it more. I've just generally favoured crit. But my Scholar is currently using the Susano Ex weapon. But then Scholar is more of a secondary class for me these days as RDM replaced it in SB.
