Apparently Nanamo is also delaying the appointment of a new member to the empty syndicate seat as something of a power play. I wonder if Rowena will make a claim for that seat.

I still want to punch Lolorito in the face even if he has made an effort to... mend fences.

I enjoy the fact that this thread was originally about the Dark Knight storyline and suddenly now it's all about Ul'dahn politics.

My question now is this : If the Dark Knight tradition had spread from Ishgard to Ul'dah a few generations back, do you think they would have stepped in to stop the Monetarists rise? Or would they have seen the Sultanate and their Sultansworn paladins to be what needs to be taken down for the good of the people...?

I too have... mixed feelings about the bastard. He does have a nice niece though (end of Kugane Castle instance), but that's about the only nice thing I will say about him.

If any of the Scions had died directly because of his little counter-plot then I would have wanted his head for it.

I wonder what ever happened to that handmaiden who worked for him? Would be a shame if she lost her pretty head over the matter if Lolorito was allowed to walk free.

A Dark Knight in Ul'dah would either be on a constant corruption killing spree or have been bribed off ages ago. They would of course cut down any Sultansworn who got in their way, but they would likely also be the same corrupt ones we fight.

Lolorito is... a scumbag, but a predictable scumbag. Everything he does is for the sake of profit; even donating funds to the Sultanate is a long-term business move. (Can't make money if Ul'dah falls into chaos.)

The situation surrounding the banquet is... complicated. More likely than not everything played out according to Lolorito's script... until Ilberd cut off Raubahn's arm and goaded him into a fight, sending the Scions into a panic and causing them to flee. Had we stayed behind we'd likely have been cleared of charges... eventually. After Ilberd was kicked to the curb. Minfilia would still be with us, and Y'shtola and Thancred would be no worse for the wear. ... maybe.

A Dark Knight in Ul'dah probably wouldn't last too long, since they'd likely go on a killing spree not long after getting there and be cut down by city guards. Or they might take a more pragmatic approach and only go after the worst of the worst; despite the corruption in Ishgard, Sidurgu is content to deal with only what he can see (Ystride during the 50-60 line) instead of prowling the streets and looking to punish evildoers... though you do this during the 60+ quest, it ultimately leads to a different tangent.

Amusingly enough, Musosai from the SAM 50-60 line acts almost just like a Dark Knight, wandering the land and bringing justice to corrupt elements of society. Fortunately Momozigo stops him from cutting down the culprit(s) of the Ul'dahn quest, but who knows how things might have turned out without him...

Yeah, Musosai was quite similar, even down to wondering the land under an assumed name in his younger days to punish evil doers. There is something of a difference of philosophy though. SAM is more about protecting the peace and safety of the people against wrongdoing and evil while DRKs are more avengers. If you look at the 60-70 SAM quests, the antagonist is actually more like a DRK.

I think this thread is progressively turning into a Job questline thread:P

So, getting this thread back on track. The 30 to 50 quests were about the Dark aspect of the Dark Knight, whereas the 50 to 60 quests were about the Knight aspect of the job. Sidurgu needed to understand why he did what did outside of anger at the clergy.

I saw 50-60 as actually about being a DRK. 30-50 was focused more on the WoL's personal issues rather than about what being a DRK is actually about. Fantastic quests but we learn very little about the Job itself. 60-70 does however touch on that during the lvl 65 quest which I really enjoyed.

The Sekiseigumi are about protecting the peace and safety of the people, but Musosai's activities also serve this purpose - just off the books. Given the Sekiseigumi are the official police force of Kugane and you work with them for the 60 - 70 line, it would make sense that aspect is more prominent in that line, but like your average DRK Musosai has no problems cutting down irredeemable evildoers.

While the 50 - 60 line does illustrate your average DRK's day, the other two do illustrate a very important aspect of the job (both of a Dark Knight and the Warrior of Light in general), encaspulated by this one quote delivered by Fray, Myste, and you during the 70 quest.

I would like to see the origin of our powers and ties to the abyssal arts for the next set of quest. However i have to agree the Dark Knight job quest are by far some of my favorite in the game.

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
