Remove it from Roles and add it back to the jobs/classes. Issue is there is not enough role abilities slots for healers to have it in there. Same goes for Esuna.

Get rid of our current version.
Give it to WHM and make it work like old Stoneskin did.



Don't get rid of protect. Put back the skills that were mandatory for all classes that were removed in the first place and don't just giggle and put it in role class skills as 'optional' things (Mana Shroud, Rampart, etc.)
Protect should be changed to something else, if the fire and forget is an annoyance. Have it like ff9 where it was a short duration buff that upped your defense a large amount. But getting rid of more staples for a role is a trend that should stop before it gets to the ludicrous amount that tanks/healers have already, or it gets even worse later on.
Protect AND Esuna should be available to all healer Jobs and not Role Actions. The end.
For me it needs to be removed because any damage mitigation seems to be a must have. Even if it's temporary, it's still going to be taken every time. The overall Role Abilities either suck, or are amazing. There's really no in between sadly.



Leave spells alone if don't like them then don't play a healer. Protects been in every final fantasy game ever played.


They should get rid of Protect the way is working now.
I think they should rework it and leave it to WHM only.
A Protect single target spell that have a duration of 10-20 secs and a recast of 60-90 secs (dev do your work) that mitigate physical damage for 10-20% while active.
This way they can give some shield to whm and plus, they can add Shell for magical damage and -ga versions of the spell for the AoE shields
The way is now is just tedious; put Protect in role skill, use it, delete it (if dungeon) or just keep 1 healer to have it in raid...

Please don't get rid of Protect. Even it's effect is debatable, it's a staple Final Fantasy spell.Both Shell and Protect should be canon in Final Fantasy games!...Keep it. It's a Final Fantasy staple. You might as well get rid of chocobos as well if you get rid of protect.I really don't understand what makes Protect a "Final Fantasy staple" or in any way iconic by any means of the imagination. You guys really think other RPGs don't use barrier/defensive spells?Protect is iconic, come on guys.
That being said, yeah, the fact you can potentially use it and just swap to something else kinda speaks to it not really being balanced particularly well with the rest of the skills.
Protect doesn't cut nearly that much damage.The biggest problem with removing Protect is that the entire game has be retuned for the 15% damage it reduces.

I don't think Protect is worth it anymore anyway. MMORPGs are moving away from buffs in general. It is not just WoW either, a lot of new MMOs don't have buffs. It's good the FFXIV devs are thinking of competing with other MMOs by not keeping their game completely in 2015.
