Agreed. Reinheart volunteered his time to translate the video days ago, yet the paid company translators need more time. Pretty obvious where non-JP community ranks on the influence scale.
High on the scale?
It takes longer because they need to make extra sure that everything is accurate and nothing is misleading. This isn't easy when dealing with completely different languages. If they didn't and rushed it out, the community would uproar about some misconception and Yoshi would have to come forward, personally apologize, and clarify the issue(s), and this is bad for their image. Some forum mods have already had to step forward to clarify misconceptions from current translations out there.
If you want a rough translation to get the gist, Reinhart has gone out of his way to make one available. If you want an official translation with all the kinks worked out, it takes a little more time.
Well he didnt do everything, nore is he 100% accurate. Nore does he need verification, clarification, need to edit the video typing in the subtitles at every little second. Not to mention they are also translating the producer letter for class information, and likely other stuff. Where as Reinheart was not doing all this.
Just because Reinheart can do it fast does not mean the official translators can, they have a process and other workload.
A game made in japan, with a japanese producer and team and you got to see the video (more or less) live across the globe, and you're crying that you didn't get live subtitles? You really are a baby
I don't see how you can expect to have subtitles on something that's live...unless you want someone typing the translation as they're talking on the screen? Even if they did that, there would probably be a lot of mistakes from pressure. I'd rather wait and see a GOOD translation.
Yep official translation, specially the well written ones takes time and lots of checks to make sure everything is correct; just like Inaaca said if something is said wrong it can lead to lots of problems.Well he didnt do everything, nore is he 100% accurate. Done real translation in the past for companies/friends (for government docs and stuff) those were OK but it's not easy work. I dunno which is easier, Japanese to English or English to Japanese... either way... takes a while to get it 100%, when I did the real translations I had my wife proof read + others re-read my stuff and fix it for me; as for FF14 translations I post is all on my own so I don't have anyone checking / proof reading, I could miss translate some stuff so I have that message on my thread saying it's not 100%.
And this one is a video... video is so much more pain in the butt lol, rewind...play....rewind...play....rewind...slow mode....rewind...rewind...play... ok next sentence/paragraph lol. Was fun stuff to try translate![]()
As a native Japanese speaker, there were some inaccuraces, which Rein even says he knows won't always be 100% accurate.
A professional company takes a lot longer to get accurate translations out in multiple languages because...get this, they're a professional company and they can't have typos and misplaced words all over the place -- They also need to make sure it's understandable in every respective language supported.
Not too hard to comprehend.
uuuh yeah live broadcast with subtitles...even most TV shows can't have closed captioning when making a live broadcast.
People people...you have to sync the subtitle to the Japanese speech. You can make a whole sentence in Japanese with a few Japanese word characters. It may take a long sentence in English...which they have to reword to sync with the timing of the subtitles...the video was a good 1.5 hours. So it takes a while to sub properly and professionally.
Seriously...complaining about this is ridiculous...everyone wants SE to do a good job with their stuff like they are known to...and here someone has to complain to get it shoved out immediately. I'm convinced all you complainers would complain no matter the circumstance. Learn a little patience...CHEERS!
Had yoshi been going from a script then it would have been reasonable to expect subs on the video. How ever they were doing it live that takes some time.
