Had a Sastasha HM in roulette this morning as blm. Had a newbie healer along with a dps and tank who claimed they haven't done this dungeon in a while. I gave the healer the info on the first boss so they knew what to expect. Well they had no idea Esuna was a role ability or what it did, which resulted in a wipe.

Round 2: healer was a good egg and looked for Esuna and set it after not paying attention the first time. I also reminded the tank/dps that they can stun Tail Screw. Healer stepped up and was removing the dot and trying to top us off (though they were struggling a little). The other two refused to stun though so the healer got overwhelmed (again they were new) and we wipe again.

Tank immediately leaves, followed by the dps. We wait a bit, get a new dps and a new tank. Everyone listens to the strat, and we clear on the first try. One thing I don't like about the role ability thing is that people are very focused on the ones that boost their performance instead of what can offer help to the party as a whole. Big props to the newbie healer taking advice very well and getting visibly better as the dungeon went on and lots of thanks to the aware tank and nin that helped save the run

Admit it though, it's funny af to troll your friends with it lol I primarily tank and dps with friends from my FC. And they find it amusing to yank me across the arena every now and then. I swear I can feel the whiplash every time. So naturally, when I decided to level AST and said friend was levelling MNK, you can bet I was pulling him everywhere every chance I got lol feels like this ability was made just to mess with people.

Had a similar situation happen to me in Bardams Mettle while levelling AST, although I think I turned out to be more of the asshole than the tank. I love big pulls in lvl 70 dungeons, but not so much in levelling dungeons. This tank pulled everything he could and didn't use a single CD. The thing is, I could have healed him through it, despite how much damage he was taking. But after two days of nothing but PUG tanks who don't know what Rampart is, I decided to let him die. Told him that if he was adamant about big pulls then he needed to use his defensive CD's or else I'd let him die. So what's he do? He pulls the first two packs (perfectly fine) and then pops Living Dead and says "oops". I almost hit the floor. I couldn't tell if he was trolling or not. But he pulled less and despite him still not using CD's except for when he was almost dead, we didn't wipe. Then comes one of the big pulls before the final boss. He pulls three packs without any defensives, and at this point I just wanted it to be done, so I healed him through it. Once that pack was down, he pulls the next single pack of three mobs and THEN pops Rampart. I just.....I don't......hwat???? I actually called him out on it because I know the tank cooldowns and how long it takes them to get off CD. I said "so you don't pop any cooldowns when you mass pull, but you'll pop Rampart for 3 mobs?" I admit, I was heated and I should have just bit my tongue because I don't like being THAT guy in pug groups. But I couldn't take it anymore. His response was "This wasn't my best run, ok?" I felt kinda bad afterwards because I remember having tanking anxiety when I first started this game and I don't want to be the guy who runs off tank players. We cleared the dungeon and I gave him my comm out of pity and because I felt bad for snapping at him.

I got reminded of a good story from the old times. Back when Syrcus Tower was still relevant, I DF'd a run as a Scholar with multiple people new to the instance. Surprisingly back then people were tolerant and taught mechanics to new people lol and so we discussed tactics and mechanics for the newbies before each boss pull. But this one Bard was super impatient and whined and pulled shit early a couple times. By the time we got to Amon the remaining 23 of us got fed up with it. So when he pulled the boss, everyone stepped out of the field, and seeing this the bard tried to escape the field as well. Amon stylishly walks out of the field, past all the rest of us, pimp slaps the Bard to death and walks back in before the reset. Everyone Lmao'd, Bard leaves the instance out of humiliation, and the rest of us had a grand old time afterwards. One of my fave XIV memories lol

    Ah, leveling roulette.
Went in on my Paladin and got Doma castle. Ok, nice, just my level. Was starting to think about replacing my tank gear anyways.

Well, this French trio, AST RDM and... MNK? SAM? Can't remember suddenly... they were really into big pulls. The first time I was planning on doing a smaller pull (what with not being exactly up to date on gear), but they went and brought more back for me. Okay, we clear that pull. I let them know I'm fine with bigger pulls, as long as they warn me about wanting those, and let me do the pulling myself. Surprisingly, they comply. No pulling before me (aside from one boss), and sticking to the 2-3 packs I judged to be my limit.

That was one of the most fun things to tank I've ever had. With the Astro doing so much DPSing I was falling scarily low a lot of the time, and sometimes had to rely on Clemency to survive. But I never died. The run was reeeeally smooth, and over in... like 13 minutes. And it was really darn fun, keeping me on my toes the whole time. Good practice for rotating cooldowns too.
Thank you to the trio. 10/10, would tank for again.

Did Trials today and got Susano. I have done it only once for story, and I don't remember it being that bad. People were acting like it was Steps of Faith. There was one new person. First one of the healers left, then everyone else decided to leave. I felt bad for the new person, but I don't think it was likely for us to get more people after almost everyone left.

    Mentor roulette.

    Ramuh Extreme.

The first few pulls were an absolute mess. The other tank didn't know what he was doing, didn't know to pick up orbs, and didn't speak English. After a few pulls when I was trying to offer advice, he pulled again and everyone basically stood there and died, then dismissed him. I had a good feeling, it seemed like people wanted to learn, so I stayed.

While we waited for a replacement tank I began to explain the mechanics of the fight. As the other tank zoned in, we'd just about covered the most important mechanics. The new tank was a mentor Paladin, and switched to Sword Oath when they saw me in Defiance. They never said anything, but they clearly understood Surge Protection and when to tank swap.

It took another half hour, 20% echo, and several more wipes, but before the hour was up five people got their clear and achievement.

    Those are so damn satisfying.

Tanks not using cooldowns is becoming an epidemic...

Just got out of a doma castle on BLM with a (lolbattlementor) level 70 sync down PLD who did double pulls at beginning of the dungeon and used only one mitigation cooldown one time during the whole run.

They only used convalescence around 3 times the entire dungeon and once in awhile used shelltron and finally one time used rampart because they almost got trucked.

So before the second boss I asked them why they don't use any actual mitigation cooldowns[politely, nothing rude] (IE: Rampart, Sentinel, or even Anticipation?) and they said...

"i save em for when i need em"

So...they basically used nothing the whole run making the healer of the group unable to do anything but spam heal them because they were a wet paper bag.

Just some math. The doma castle run by timestamps took us 22 minutes which means....

Rampart (90s recast) could have been used around 12 times. They used it once when their HP was really low so I guess popped it cause they almost died (duh that is going to happen when you use no cooldowns)
Convalescence (120s recast) could have been used around 9 times. They used it only three times.
Sentinel (180s recast) could have been used around 5 times. They used it zero times.
Anticipation (60s recast) could have been used around 15+ times. They used it zero times.
Bulwark (180s recast) could have been used around 5 times. They used it zero times.
Hollowed Ground (420s recast) could have been used 2 times. They used it zero times.

*theoretical how many times due to like time between pulls etc and not stacking all cooldowns at once type thing

All the time they spent "saving" these cooldowns they could have used most of those mitigation cooldowns like 5+ times or more and mitigated tons of excess damage, but nope...they just don't use them at all...not even on bosses.

I guess rotating cooldowns to be as 'tanky' as possible just isn't the hip thing to do in 2017....even though I am pretty sure mitigating as much damage as possible was part of the tank role, but maybe I am just the crazy one.

Just got out of a V4N with the Blizzard III bug. It was amusing at first to see people drop like flies after being frozen but after the fifth time it wasn't funny anymore.

Obviously, this was not the case with your tank, but when I tank, I do make it a point to rotate my cooldowns, if I know a particular group of mobs hit like a truck.

Once upon a time, before SB, I was in the Aery as DRK, going about my business as usual. Inevitably, I reached that point where I've gone through all of the DRK's cooldowns, even when using them one at a time.

And then the healer told me to use more cooldowns.

Sure, just let me look in my ass for more of them. Not like these things have timers or whatever.

Next time pop em all at once when the healer tell you that, then advice the healer to find their cure spam button, because you have nothing to pop anymore. It will be the last time that this healer, backseat tanks and minds his/her own job. Wish we could record their face when that happens, it's priceless lol.
