But in this case I will get 0 commends, because only randoms can give them.

Playing since ARR beta, have 2.2k coms, while playing mostly dps (brd\mch). And also, even if you have a good dps, but paired with a bad one, tank and healer see an "average" run in total and don't give commends.

So...in the context of this thread *is* that worth noting, especially when bad attitudes aren't dps exclusive?

    Anecdote below
Besides which tanks and healers can and in my experience are the more toxic people when things get toxic, because unlike dps they're virtually irreplaceable. Anecdotal though, feel free to dismiss.
My point goes for any role, not just dps. You can be the most amazing tank or healer, but if you fail at being a decent human being you deserve no accolades for your stellar gameplay.

I made a point of directing it towards dps, because that's the role people tend to use their penis measuring tape (meters) to point out just how good they are and how bad everyone else is by comparison.

I appreciate good dps. I do not appreciate anyone of any role being a douchenozzle to other people. DPS just happen to be the most frequent offenders that I have personally encountered in that regard so I felt it worth noting. I apologize if you took offense and I do agree I should have considered that not everyone's experience will be the same as mine.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

Don't worry, I wasn't offended or anything. I just felt like perhaps your point could have used more clarification which you then provided.

My way for commends is a mix between skills, attitude, and overall mood of the duty. Then have a preference to commend the first timers for the bonus or the pain of trying to keep up with a party of i330 savages

There is an unspoken rule for commendations that people seem to follow. At least most of them.
The rule of Tank to Healer and DPS to DPS.
Tanks usually commend the healer because they depend on them more than the DPS as Healers focus on Tanks which is normal. It's like saying thank you for the good heals or well done healing me with my big pulls.
The DPS commend each other because they either know Healer and Tank exchange the commendation between them or because they saw how well the other DPS played.
By following this rule everyone gets 1 commendation.
The other times people just don't commend anyone and fast leave the dungeon or someone did something that broke the monotony of things and dropped the commendation to him/her.

Why people don't value high dps? Is that because the game lacks official damage parser and you can't see who's doing what damage, and healer's spells or tank aggro abilities effect are always visible? That's a very shallow way to determine someone's performance.
The bottom line is, when your party doesn't heal/tank stuff, whatever you're trying to do usually crumbles unless it's something piss easy. If your DPS is bad, about the worst thing that happens to you is that you'll take a little longer to complete the dungeon. Maybe you'll be unable to meet DPS checks, but the majority of instances don't have them.

And yes, because we aren't explicitly shown someone's DPS contribution, it's a little hard to judge someone's performance based on that unless you're specifically looking out for it and watching what they're doing, which many people just won't bother with.

I get enough commendations as DPS. Sometimes all it takes is being polite and doing the job, giving advice to help newer players etc. I admit, though, I usually give comms to other dps if they did well, because they are rarer, but if the DPS was just a bad player or the tank/healer did really well, I'll give it to them.

Speaking from the standpoint of both a tank and healer:

I do give out comms to DPS, but they generally have to stand out to do so. We aren't really supposed to be running parsers, so oftentimes the only way I know when a DPS is doing great is when they do something that impacts the role I'm playing at the time. I.E. Bards almost always get a comm from me as a healer if they throw Refresh on me, any DPS that uses Diversion is likely to get a comm from me when I'm tanking, any time I see packs melt to an AOE I can generally pinpoint who's doing it and they will get a comm.

It is, however, much easier for me to tell when the other roles are doing well. I'm not saying that exemplary DPS don't deserve the comms - I hand them out frequently. I'm just saying that unless a DPS goes above and beyond "hit stuff" I'm not very likely to give them a comm over the person that took on extra responsibility, helps shorten queue times, and makes everyone's play that little bit better.

Yes, I have a dislike of how tanks are designed in this game. I stated a fact about how tanks are designed. If that's insulting them I apologize. If it were helping me, what would happen? If anything, I'm insulting SE themselves since they obviously have no desire to change anything. See my comment here. Please understand that what I am criticizing is the design of tanks themselves, similar to the laws of a society, the system itself.

I am NOT saying that people who play tanks are by default bad or anything. In fact, the average level of a DF tank is higher than the average level of a DF DPS, for the same reason it is with DF healers. Their mistakes are obvious and they'll get kicked if they're that bad. I also do commend tanks by default as I do acknowledge they play a role most people don't want to, for various reasons, and they have a limited ability to speed up the run and carry the run.

If you're talking about the guy I responded to, he's wrong that PLD has a more complicated rotation than SMN and he really shouldn't have said anything. Someone else pretty much said the same thing I did. "What you wrote say more about your level as a player than anything else."

EDIT: Also, my sub expires today, so I won't be able to post on forums in about 2 weeks or so :P

It's indeed hard to judge a DPS-player perfomance without 3rd party software, like "you-know-what".
