It doesn't surprise me if he finds DPS more fun. Tanks are DPS with simplified rotations, an aggro combo (and an AoE aggro skill or 2 or 3) and mitigation cooldowns.
Assuming the tank and healer are half-decent, DPS carry the run, as in making the run a lot shorter.
Uh what? I'm sorry but I can say for a fact that my PLD has a far more in depth rotation than SMN, and probably a few others. The biggest thing here is with tanks we also have to stance dance, on top of maintaining our cds, managing threat, managing our own health if the healer dies, managing placement of the boss so the dps running around to the front of the boss for some random reason don't get cleaved. Now one could argue dps have to maintain cds, but then again they don't have to worry about wiping the group if they don't have certain abilities ready at the right time.
Oh I can definitely tell when the DPS are really killing things fast. They will always get a comm from me. : D
My main is DPS and I played DPS only until I made an alt and mained healer on them for faster dungeon pops. Long story short, in a couple of months healer alt got more comms than my main did for two years. ;_; and before someone thinks scrub dps, I did my share of clearing the current end game contents at the time, always optimized melds and rotation, yes always say hello and thank for the run. DPS just doesn't get much love.
If anything this topic shows that a lot of people give a commendation for reasons that don't have anything to do with your performance, at the end of the day are pointless.
What you wrote say more about your level as a player than anything else.Uh what? I'm sorry but I can say for a fact that my PLD has a far more in depth rotation than SMN, and probably a few others. That sounds like a healer who knows how to do their job really well, your HP isn't at 0 which is what matters.
I only give comms to players who are doing more than the bare minimum. Just because I have the option to comm, doesn't mean I have to do so.
If things die quickly and I don't feel like my contribution to DPS is making things significantly different, then I know that the DPS is good, and I'll commend them. On the other hand if I see mechanics repeating more times than normal, or trash takes an age to die, the I'll commend the healer.
LOL what? You literally have 3 basic combos. Obviously you have Requiescat and Holy Spirit now too, but my point still remains. I don't even play SMN, yet I have a feeling that SMN's rotation is more complex. The best example for you to have picked would have been Monk, but Monk's challenge comes in upkeeping GL3 and managing positionals.Uh what? Fast Blade->Savage Blade->Rage of Halone
Fast Blade->Riot Blade->Goring Blade
Fast Blade->Riot Blade->Royal Authority
The fact you think managing CDs and threat in this game is challenging says a lot about your level as a player in this game. I apologize if that came off as rude, but that's the honest truth. Managing CDs is not that hard, especially with how scripted boss fights are. For example, the first Assail in Susano Ex is within the first few GCDs of the fight so you can just Shield Lob->Sentinel to catch it. Come on, SE buffed the threat modifiers. You press one skill (Flash) in tank stance, and it generates a huge amount of aggro. Compared to what I'm used to, it's very easy to generate aggro as a tank in this game. You just do your 1-2-3 combo and you generate a lot of aggro in tank stance. This comment of mine explains why I think tanking in this game is boring.
Considering you find tanking challenging in this game, I can only wonder what you think of this, where you have to optimize your DPS to hold aggro, and you have to constantly mitigate damage every few seconds (which also limits your ability to generate aggro and do DPS).

I just use my brain... if I noticed something awesome someone did I give them my comm. Role doesn't matter. Wish everyone did that, I feel like a lot of people play without their brains on, just do their rotation with muscle memory.
