Why people don't appreciate high dps?

After getting over 7k commendations on multiple roles and jobs, 95% of which were earned on a healer or tank...

    proof

...I still wonder why people commend healers and tanks by default? I can semi-afk and cast one Cure or Flash in 15 seconds and leave the dungeon with 3 commendations. Or I can work really hard on dps role, doing optimal rotation, using food and pots, and making 30 minute dungeon run into 15 minute and still leave with zero commendation.
Why people don't value high dps? Is that because the game lacks official damage parser and you can't see who's doing what damage, and healer's spells or tank aggro abilities effect are always visible? That's a very shallow way to determine someone's performance.
I just feel like good dps deserve more praise because they generally work more, they have more complex rotations, and they can affect the run times the most. Yet they get almost nothing for all their efforts.
It's unfair and perception that dps are second rate jobs (when in fact they usually carry us) should be changed.

I think it's best to consider everyone an equal part of the group - comms can be quite divisive in that sense unfortunately.
I don't think that dps roles are considered second rate per se - just that tanks and healers are generally first in the firing line if something goes wrong and their mistakes are obvious and carry more weight (e.g people will die) than a dps slowing down the run by under-performing.

The way I generally see commendations is "you played the role not many people want to play so here you go" more than given based on performance. Personally I only give them out if someone actually impresses me or if I want the exp from the challenge log.

Most people don't run parsers, so unless you do something to stand out, you probably won't get a comm as DPS. If you want comms, play a utility DPS like RDM.

This is wrong though. Healers make the largest difference when it comes to dungeon clear times. The difference between a mediocre DPS and good DPS isn't that much, but the difference between a "im healer i only heal" healer and a good healer who contributes damage when healing isn't needed will shave minutes off a dungeon run.

For me I comm if someone was nice, or made the part more fun, gave buffs, did their job pretty well or whatever.
I do comm tanks because no one really wants to play tanks so at least someones doing it.
Or if someone is cute, I like to comm cute Lala's lol.

I've got comms as a BRD for pushing out Songs this patch.
I've seen a lot of RDM's not use their restorative spells.
IE. It's a very rare sight. Me and my co-healer was down took years for the RDM to res us, SMN had to do it.
IE.2 I was stunned I guess? in Temple of Fist, RDM did nothing to heal or save me so lol.

I think one of the many reasons is the way tje coomendation window is made. What i mean is: there are a lot of players that dont really care of commendations and some just do it for the weekly, what usually happens is they commend the "default" selection which is tank.; another thing that happens is people leave early so the only one left gets commendations.

Said so, as playstation user, i usually give commedation to who i think did his best or tried to do his best on the duty. If i notice the dps is doing high damage(cant see their actual damage but you can "feel" it) and especially if he do give his part to help healers (support skills/cc mobs targeting healer/save healer/etc), the tank (know how aggro works and how to make it efficiently so tank will not need to spam aggro combos etc) and or otheer dps so the party, I commend dps.

Because it's easier to gauge if healer/tank is bad or good than if a dps is bad or good. No one dies=good (or at least competent) healer and/or tank. A dps could be hitting every rotation and skill perfectly on every pull and boss fight for the entire dungeon or simply slamming their face repeatedly into the keyboard and there is really no way to tell short of parsers.

I usually tank and will comm the healers by default if they've done a good job- kept me and everyone else up well, threw out dps when they could, didn't stand in the bad. If I see a dps going out of their way to help the group- grabbing a canon to blast stuff in certain mechanics, stopping to rez their fellow dps to save the healer's mp, stacking or spreading when they are supposed to- then I will comm them instead because they are going above and beyond just tunneling their rotation and actually putting in the effort to make the run smoother beyond stuff dying faster.

I frequently wish I could commend multiple people. I actually just gave a DPS my comm in the ex roulette I just did because they were the first person in like 2 weeks to actually threaten to take aggro off me on a boss, normally just being able to auto-pilot Deliverance after the initial build up at the start. The biggest issue generally is because there are two of them, it's not as easy to tell which one, if not both, actually deserve a comm, and so I generally just give it to the healer if no one dies.

When i play healer, Ill comm the tank if he met my basic roulette standards.

When i play tank, Ill comm the healer if he met my basic roulette standards.

When i play DPS, Ill comm the other dps if he met my basic roulette standards.

If someone shows me something above my basic standard, such as trying to break the silence with a nice conversation, Ill usually give them a comm regardless of the class I'm on.

I really wish the parade chocobo could be black so it's different from the other two fatties. xD

You want a comm? Just say hello. So many people refuse to show a basic level of civility, the person who offers a greeting will almost always get my vote. :/
