I think its a real shame that they work on creating these huge detailed zones and they are never to be seen again unless its for a hunt. I have not been diving once since the msq and will only do so to gather.

Hunts, fates, gathering, maps, MSQ updates, job quests, sightseeing log. Plenty of reasons to be out in the various zones. Underwater, not so much I'll give you that. The lack of any addition to combat leves this time around was also a pretty bad move.
People generally just don't want to do most of those things that can get them out of Kugane/Rhalgr's Reach/Housing. There's only so much you can do when people aren't willing to do anything.
Yes those zones are truly huge but they are lacking quite the life. Especially underwater. You have a huge mass of land with a bit of plants everywhere and some monster sprinkled around it. It does not feel alive for me. You only have monsters that are out to kill you so how can these farmers survive this, if those monsters are even around the camp and are attacking you if you just walk on the normal path? Where are all the critters and non violent animals? Why are plant eating animals attacking us on sight? Where are the herds in the Azim steppe? Why is there no true actions between different kind of animals or monsters? I mean in the new diadem you will have non violent creatures that are attacked by meat eaters in fates. Why not have something like that in the zones too? Then I at least would feel like these are alive.
So they took their budget, make those big zones yet they dont feel alive and are barely used anyway. They could do way more with this, or just create smaller, denser zones like some of the ARR ones and take the time and money and create more new endgame stuff instead.
MSQ and job quests are done once and thus are not something you do repeatably. One can only do so much fates and hunts after so many years before it feels boring and repetitive. So its kinda bad to say that people are not willing to do anything if they have to do content that was already done in ARR..Hunts, fates, gathering, maps, MSQ updates, job quests, sightseeing log. You know in Rift you can gather artifacts that are lying all over the landscapes as small balls of light. Some are next to a path, some others are behind items, some are far off the path and much more. Its fun to explore the whole map to get these and they are not so easy to find since there are no hints where they are. (One could buy an ability that shows them for 30 minutes for real money but you are not forced to use that) Also you can stumble over a riddle in each zone which must be solved differently and grants you a chest with a nice price. At the same time you are able to find books from time to time in NPCs houses or in the zone, which you can take with you. They will tell you about the lore of the game, something that is quite lacking in a story driven game like FF14. You know instead of having all the lore information in a real life book, they could have been included as ingame books too which could be read in the game. This would have been another way to use the zones.
The only thing that is even near something like that in FF14 is the sightseeing log and that was made way easier since HW.

Maybe this is why Themeparks are falling out of fashion? It's all much too linear - be it the MSQ or just endgame in general. As much as I love this game, I can't see how bearing through another gear treadmill for SB could possibly be healthy for the game. :/
Never said it was something that's going to keep you out there forever. 15 Jobs to get you out and about. MSQ updates repeatedly over the course of the expansion. Saying that once you're through the only reason you ever go out is for hunts is a lie, that's all I was getting at. People just don't do them for whatever reason they feel like saying.MSQ and job quests are done once and thus are not something you do repeatably. You're not going to convince most people in this game to go find random little balls of light with no assistance. Not unless you tie the best possible gear to it or make it the best way to level. All you'll get for that is people complaining that it's not content, that it's boring. You know in Rift you can gather artifacts that are lying all over the landscapes as small balls of light. In fairness people have been saying that about WoW for at least the last 7 years... yet here we all are still.
I think it's more of the notion that you must be logged into to an MMO 24/7 (especially in the subscription-based models) to either a) enjoy it or b) get your monies worth – that idea is shifting to a more (dare I dare I say it) 'casual' approach - casual in the time invested sense.
I think that perhaps for MMO veterans – which I think a lot of the player base would be now (over all MMOs; given that shift in gaming habits over the last 20 years)– would be having a hard time adjusting to that.
I leveled my chocobo in racing to max rank and pedigree, so i could unlock chocobo helm.
please put more glam behind walls to make them special.
You know how many Frontlines I spammed to try to get commander's coat but did it during a time where it was a slow que and the people who did them were premades? I barely got wins but i did them anyways cuz it was only way to work toward coat, still haven't got it yet, but it's literally the only long term goal I have lmao.
This will help me feel like I have something to work towards.
I would've NEVER did chocobo racing this much if I didn't want that helm. and honestly I thought the journey there was kind of fun.
I also want the glamour from seal rock, the problem is nobody running seal rock anymore....i was in que more than 1.5h and nothing...
I think that we like prestige rewards in general, but the joke's on us because everytime they add something that requires more than 10 mins to get the forums goes up in flames, because how dare they make us works our butt to do stuff!.
I'm at the point that I'm surprised if stuffs doesn't get nerfed or make easier. I don't want to say that everything should be hard to get, but certianly some things should feel special
I left ARR and HW at certain points for the same reason. Grinding tomestones over and over just gets very boring for content after a while. Fates are obsolete at max level because they only give grand company seals. Hunts can be fun, but also quite frustrating, and hitting the raids or dungeons over and over just wears you down after a while. They need to mix the formula up. My suggestion is if they want us collecting tomes then offer a small amount of tomes from other content like fates or the challenge log. I say Fates highly because I see so many people not doing them. Make it a drop you can get that you can turn in for tomes or to purchase materia. One token gets you 5 or 10 tomes. Then 5 tokens gets you the items you use to purchase level 5 materia while 10 gets you the item for the level 6 materia. Another incentive to do world content.
