One word Practice. Unless your doing a relic weapon and grinding like crazy so it burns into your soul you really won't remember it :P

I use my brain
I don't watch videos or read guides for normal dungeons/raids. I like going as a healer for new content, since I can cover my butt if I screw something up (unless I got one shot), then hopefully remember the mechanic in the future.
For specific fights, I try to come up with an easier way to remember - for example, red (sohm al nm 2nd boss) or dragon (chimera) is for hugs (stack/close to boss), blue or ram is run away from the emo kid. :v Some fights, I'm just hopeless for - stupid fore/aft/port/star gets me every time. Practice makes perfect.
Rather than remember specifics. Just try and learn generalized types.
All mechanics within those types are dealt with in much the same way and I find it's easier to remember things that way.for example this boss has a stack mechanic a jail mechanic and a gaze mechanic. Easier to remember than trying to remember the specific names of each of those in every fight. Even in instances where they might be dealt with slightly differently often just remembering it has a jail mechanic is enough for you to remember the specifics when a trigger for that mechanic pops on screen.
This is easier than you might think. It's basically always front and back. Or left and right. It's never front and left or back and left for example. So you can simplify it by if it's "fore" get beside it. If it's not then get behind it. And you'll ace it every time.

Just need to brush up on your nautical terms for that one there....and be sure you're not at max range during that fight...as a RDM I get caught too far back and needing to run, usually getting hit, for those. Mostly due to skills on CD.
For myself, I tend to practice and understand the general marker for the mechanic. For example, group of arrows pointing at a player, that's a stack mechanic. Purple eye coming from the mob, that's a gaze (turn your back). The main reused mechanics have a specific marker to identify them. Learn that and you'll have no problems with the mechanic anywhere, for the most part.
Yep. Starboard is a nautical term for I believe left side (either that or right side). So Port/Star = Left/Right (where the attacks will hit). Fore/Aft = Front/Back.
I believe the OP is trying to use her brain with this, and is asking for advice on how others do it. Could you give a little more substance to your response please? Atm it just reeks of snark.
White Mage ~ Scholar ~ PaladinBoi if you got kicked for the same thing in over 20 duties I strongly suggest you think hard on whatever the hell it is you're doing
As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.
Just as important as learning a mechanic is knowing when a certain mechanic is coming.
Watch that targets cast bar, know the enemy skill tendency behind the casted skill.
That informs where you are going to move or what your are going to do.
Set up your position so that you can move where you know you belong in the quickest and simplest manner.
Most mechanics in any fight can be avoided/mitigated if you know the three rules.
See the mechanic
Think know the mechanic
Feel avoid/mitigate the mechanic
When you do it all once in the entire dance, you become an indestructible master of war.

I really appreciate the responses guys, thank you!I apologize for not responding to everything, but I promise I'm reading every single post and I appreciate all the advice and encouraging words.
Expose yourself to all the content you can. For me, it was just years of practice and experience. I've been playing since well... the begining. So nothing's really new when it comes to mechanics. You'll notice that, as the game progresses, all the mechanics you'll see now will be re-used in the future. Do old raids, all dungeons, you won't be able to memorize all of them... but at least will give you a general idea of how they work. If you can't, just focus on learn the actual and relevant content and, from there, is just starting with your own learning curve.
Edit: Also, try to play the same content on different roles: DPS, healer, tank. Try to get them from different perspectives as well. There are fights that have role-exclusive mechanics.
How do I remember?
