Mount speed was way boosted this go around. It should be enough that you have that, even though you have to mostly earn that right when doing aether currents. At least I think that's how I got the boost. Always boosted in certain areas when i was almost complete with aether. I think it's fine the way it is. It adds an element to open world exploration & gathering. Next you will be asking them to give you lvl 70 and all ex mounts.

    Boost 1 = MSQ completion.
Boost 2 = Grind Allied/Centurio seals and buy maps.

But it doesn't really replace sprint since you have to dismount to interact with pretty much anything and can't mount up in town.

It would behave exactly the same as it does now. No need to overthink it.

I'll just say this: SWTOR has a sprint toggle.
    It turns off in combat.
It turns on automatically once outside.
It is slower than mount speed.
    It can be used anywhere
It's helpful and never gave issues to the players whatsoever.

So unless I'm living in another dimension where anything remarkably helpful is considered a issue or a threat, then adding sprint as a toggle wouldn't be a problem.

Sadly this is FFXIV, so anything remarkably helpful to the player is considered an issue no matter what ("Premades for levelling? Omg it can be abused!" -> It is a reality and it's not abused), thus adding it will create problems that don't exist.

    Moving on.

If they're going to make it an unlimited toggle, then they need to change the animations for it. The current animation is designed to represent a brief sprint, not a regular way of getting around. If they can make a casual jogging animation look natural while moving at "Sprint" speeds, that I could maybe accept as an unlimited Sprint, but I really doubt they could make it look natural enough. (Even the current normal jogging run is kind of borderline.)

Overall, just leaving Sprint as an occasional brief speed burst is better. Just give us a shorter CD while in town or while on a DoL class.

I agree with the OP. Unlimited sprint outside of combat would be amazing, and in no way game breaking.

A reddit post from a newbie who is turned off by the lack of sprint uptime: https://nm.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...ed_incredibly/

Final Fantasy is about the journey - the story and the experience. There has not been a single, original Fantasy Fantasy title where the developers allowed for players to have unlimited sprint by design. That they allow you to sprint in a city at all is a miracle, considering they could have forced players to walk. In fact, they would rather add crystals in cities than give players unlimited sprint; that is how distasteful it is to the developers. They would rather move game assets than give players unlimited sprint; the reason you can see the next node is because they want you feel it is a reasonable distance away without feeling the need to run there. It wasn't designed to be an inconvenience for players who farm for hours going from one node to the next, prompting a discussion about unlimited sprint. Someone mentioned that movement speed impacts the whole game and its experience; they're right, which is why unlimited sprint would undoubtedly break that balance.

As for increasing/decreasing the cool down for gatherers - sure, you can suggest they fiddle with that a bit and see how it goes. In the city? Use the crystals - that's why they put them there!

SWTOR is about the story and experience - and a better one I might add, at least in my opinion - and still has a toggle sprint.

So I'm not sure what's so lore breaking or absolutely mind numblingly bad about unlimited sprint, when another game with the same exact mentality - story and experience - has basically unlimited sprint and SHOCK allows mounting inside the city too.

PS: and about teleporting...most games allow that with the press of a button, namely persona 4 and 5, but also Trails of Cold Steel (along side a sprint too) and, speaking of SE games, Dragon Quest 8 even showed you where you'd go. So even with the teleports it's not great.

A toggle-able sprint would have no impact on the story and improve the game experience outside of combat.

And FFXIV already has a toggle run, which many players use exclusively. That is our unlimited sprint. The one we get with the "Sprint" action is a brief burst of extra speed on top of our already sprinting speed we can use all the time. If it were to become the always available one, then people would just complain that they can no longer gain an extra boost of temporary super speed and would demand another level on top of it, call it dash or something, and we're right back to where we are now.

We've got our regular walking speed, our (already always available) running speed, and a temporary extra speed burst on top of that, called Sprint. Those are as many different levels as we need.
